Cylinder Attachment for the Rotex 90

Even in "direct drive" it still has a random orbit doesn't it?

I'm not suggesting you try it but only the RAS 115 has a suitable motion.

im fairly sure the more agressive mode is a gear drive orbital movment,.
it woulnd work for the ro90.
but it is a great idea. maybe for the ras115. make the drum 50mm so that there would be 25mm+ all around  and put some kind of bearing surface there to run along the face of the timber

Alan, I see that you have the Rotex 90, so you should know.  Is it the DX?  Maybe, they are all DX's? One of my salesman told me today that it has a rotary mode. Hopefully, one of the big guys from Festool will read this thread and chime in, so that we will have a definitive answer.

It is not just rotary....it's a "bumpy" movement.

As others have suggested it would have to be on the RAS that is just a spinning motion.

As others have said, the Rotex' coarse mode is not entirely circular. So unfortunately a cilinder attachment wouldn't work. It is neat idea though. Could work for the RAS, altough it's a bit fast and thus very aggressive.

In the video below a guy marks the paper with a pencil while he runs a RO 150 sander, see the pattern for yourself.

PC made a handheld spindle sander, pretty highly rated I think.

I picked one up a while back and have it mounted on a router plate to use in my Unisaw wing or my portable router table.  Has drums from  1/2" up to about 2".

It oscillates as well.  I figured it'd be pretty handy for truing up arches and curved countertop buildups.
