D&M Show 2017 at Kempton Park

I went to the D&M Show at Kempton today and have a very short video to prove that both Phil and Frank were there too !


If you were there do chip in and let us all know what tools took your fancy.

I saw a lot of very large Dewalt boxes moving around under the control of happy customers. The Bessey stand was busy - did you know that Bessey have improved the design of their Revos ? They are now a little tougher and you can get them really tight with a hex key.

Wera had what appeared to be their usual offerings although I did notice that one of the clever screwdrivers had a bottle opener built in - yes, I did check with the Wera man. No beer on the stand though.

Vertitas kit was on the Brimarc stand along with their usual Tormek demo and display.

There were many other stands as well.

The show was very well attended and the coffee was a little better this year.

Rumour has it that Kempton Park Race Course may be turned into a housing estate !

Funny thing is that i was the six foot six guy that was directly in front of you when you were filming Frank, at least i can say that I've made it into one of your videos even if its just my left arm! It was good to see Phil performing again and Frank just puts us to shame in demonstrating the Contruro in this environment to a bunch of builders in a foreign language.

As usual couldn't resist and came away with a Sys vac and a two of the new cordless sanders, the goodies for emptying the wallet again were good this time as I walked away with a nice fleece and a snickers Festool winter jacket.

We also had a good go at the Trend stand as well so it looks like the kids will be down the soup kitchen this weekend.

I have spent so much on tools that not only have my children been at the soup kitchen but the grandchildren are there with them now !

You are also correct about there being a possibility of the race course going to housing, my understanding is that it’s about the current profitability however the current roads can’t deal with the traffic let alone with several thousand new homes.

I’m just sorry that I didn’t turn around as it would have been nice to meeting you in person instead of on You tube

Hi Ron

As I was leaving there was a chap walking away from the hot dog stand and he had a "Ron Special" complete with extra mustard. I very nearly stopped to take a photograph of him but thought that he would think me nuts especially as he probably does not know you !

It was a vey busy show this year and there was a lot of interest at the Festool stand. Phil's stage performance gets better every year and if you are in the front row he gets the audience involved. A chap from on of the other stands (nice clean T shirt with advertising and logo) wandered just a dash too close and Phil made him hold a battery (whilst others were holding Centrotec chucks and so on). Phil eventually took the battery back from him and he was "released".

Take care Ron - hope you are back to picking your nose again.

A little bird has whispered in my ear....

The mysterious chap from another company stand may have been from Metabo. It happens that I have spoken to their UK MD not so long ago and he has helped me out a couple of times so that guy's job will be safe !

However, maybe he was a talent scout eyeing up Phil's performance - that would explain why he did not want to waste too much time and kept trying to get away.

Maybe he was involved in industrial espionage - keep a look out for the "Marvex" - Metabo's next jigsaw.

Maybe he was really eyeing up the two very pretty ladies from Festool who were just out of camera shot behind Phil.

If Ron were there we would know the answer as he would have walked straight up to the guy, finger in the chest followed by a couple of direct questions - including... "Hey Buddy, you know your way around here - where can I get a hot dog?"

And Y'all wonder why us Americans are so upset with paying full sticker price for our tools, competing with each other to get a scuffed tool with reduced warranty in order to get a discount, and downright ticked off when tool problems seemingly just can't be solved................

[member=42863]SouthRider[/member] , not wishing to rain on anyone’s parade but there has always been what I believe is called swag whichever continent you are on. Normally it’s  based on what you spend at the show, and believe me I’ve spent enough.

Prices in the UK now are not funny anymore since Braxit, an example is the Domino of500 which is now £850 as a set or nearly 150 dollars more since last year I think that’s a bit more than the 5% you boys have seen prices rise

If anyone has reason to complain is probably those in Aus who don’t get recon sales which we don’t either and pay through the nose without the same support as the rest of us. There is no Festool paid invite to a FOG Members get together and until the last couple of weeks no end user classes which I trust the Wonderfull Phil Beckly will be taking, so in all honesty I don’t feel too bad, we all get something different depending on where we are in the world., and probably all want what each other gets

Only saw Phil the week before so he must be fed up seeing me lol.

There was a massive collection of Twitter and instagram guys there too all weekend, a real good turn out.

I see Facebook posts every day from parts of the world where free batteries are offered with purchase, dealers are having sales, package deals are being made, etc. People making significant orders of tools are regularly talking about which dealers are willing to work with them on pricing.

Here a dealer can lose their franchise if they charge less than MSRP. Here you are lucky if a dealer will throw in a t-shirt after several very expensive tool purchases.

I'm not here to pit one continent or country against another. I'm expressing frustration with a system that is stifling a free market. Several from your side of the pond have mentioned the "complainers" here (and also some serial apologists from this side).

The only way things can change is if there is dissent. This is an open forum where opinions are to be shared regarding Festool. An interesting thing the internet has done is open worldwide communication. We can now readily see how things are done elsewhere. While it is frowned on in this forum, there is very active discussion of pricing on Facebook, from an international community.

While I doubt things ever will change, I know they can't possibly if no one raises the issue, and doing so in a post more likely to be read in Germany is a start.

have you gone to any of the road shows? I heard they give some bling out there? Have you taken any FT end user training? They give some out there.  Have you gone to any of the dealers when they have the suppliers/ dealers there, similar to the ones InTouch and other dealer have? They give out bling thee?

From what I understand they gave some bling out at FT connect as well. Did you order a Pro 5 sander? They gave a $50 coupon with that purchase.

I'm not looking for bling or swag. I'm looking for better prices.

They are not available in North America other than the recon sale.

Better prices? Well that isn't going to happen in the US. However if you look on the classified, craigslist, eBay etc you can find some good deals on festools in new condition. Even some NAINA items.

But having just left the UK, yes you can get better prices......sort of.

Not exactly great price differences but a few quid here and there. They do have more limited Edition items, like the great timber frame installers kit I got the last time I went to the D&M show Kempton Park. Its really nice and great for the outdoor projects I have to build.

We (Festool USA or our dealers) should put together special kits. Well thinking about it they do with the MFT clamp kits. But nothing like the timber frame installer set.

I was ordering tools from the USA. Many items were cheaper in the USA than in the UK. Others weren't. I comparitively shopped between the different tool dealers in the UK and went with the ones that offered good customer service such as Toolfest. Others were like pulling teeth to order things.

Personally, I like our system here. Why you ask, whenwe are not getting the "deals" where the EU is.

Because we get great customer service and when all thnigs are equal its the suppliers service and product knowledge that we receive here that makes the difference.
