Hi,

I’m about to land in London (from San Francisco) and started to wonder if there’s an amazing Festool dealer in the city proper that I can visit?  Please suggest a place I might see all these not available in the NA tools.

Thanks,
Rich

Hi Rich

I am not sure if there is anything in the City of London - I am sure that you understand that the City is a very small part of the capital which is dominated by financial institutions and lawyers.

Further out and not far from Heathrow airport is Axminster Tools and Machinery in High Wycombe: Cressex Business Park, Lincoln Rd, High Wycombe HP12 3FF

Then there is D&M Tools: 73-81 Heath Rd, Twickenham TW1 4AW

Moving out of London there is Toolfest: The Mayford Centre, Sutton Green, Mayford, Woking GU22 0PP

Just do a bit of Googling and you will find more. You can put the UK postcode into Google and see where these places are on a map.

You might want to contact the dealer that you select to ensure that they have what you want in stock.

Rich meant "in town" or central core when he said city. Pretty good guess though  that he's going to the "City" if he's coming from SanFrancisco.

Close in and around to W1 is slim pickings. Rent is high, spaces small and the customers few.

NuLine north side of Notting Hill is a cool hardware store that carries Festool, probably your best bet.  There's a Screwfix location on the west side of Hyde Park with later hours.  Toucan Tools is regarded as the largest Festool toy store in the area, but it's a pretty long hike up to Walthamstow.

Lots of internet vendors will deliver free to your hotel but that's a bit more risk.

Discussion earlier this summer on question asked:

The problem with Screwfix is that they carry no Festool stock in their stores and have no display or demo capability - they are just a box shifter in the very worst sense. Their staff have no clue what the tools do and can offer zero advice.

Thanks for everyone’s response.  I might try to jump in Uber and go to Toucan.  They will have all the tools on display.  Mostly I’m interested in accessories that aren’t available in the US. When a price is listed as including the 20% VAT, can I get that back at the airport?

Thanks,
Rich

You should call Toucan and see if they handle VAT refunds exports.  That'll be the easiest.

You could also try one of the financial services co. like Premier or Global Blue that do VAT tourist refunds for a fee.  I have no experience with them, and there are plenty of hoops to jump through. I've also read horror stories getting the refund or having it denied.  Then there's the duty you'll likely pay in the states for the importation of big dollar tools that would make the hassle worthwhile in the first place.

Start with the store.

Peter, I agree Screwfix is the bottom of the barrel, but they are open late and convenient to W1.  Might be a good click and collect option for some tourists.

Along with Toucan, I think D&M are either in London or close by.

You also might want to have a chat with Linda at Toolfest. She was the lady who answered the phone when I called to order stuff.

England has a amazing courier service, If you order the tool today , if they have it in stock you can get it the next day.

Have it delivered straight to your hotel.

Their website has both no Vat and Vat pricing.

Toucan definitely will blow your mind when ya walk in there and see whats on display. It did mine.

How ever as they dont fix prices in the UK like they do here, I think Toolfest is a bit cheaper price wise.
