I told her that fixing the chair to where it would be structurally sound and safe was beyond my ability. I suggested she take it to a professional to get a second opinion. She decided to junk the chair. I may play with it just for fun. Who knows, I might be able to fix the darn thing.

My advice would be don't! Life's too short.

With so many splits the only effective way to make it sturdy enough for using would be to actually machine new parts and replace the split bits.

And in the end, aside from the practice, maybe, would it actually be worth it?

Without the pressure of having to deliver, and the very real potential of disaster, now you can proceed without a burden.
