Decorative dominos (home-made)

I am making a two tier sofa table, walnut shelves and maple legs.  I am still debating on how best to permanently attach the legs.  I don't have any pics of it to show, but I have already cut mortises into the shelves the size of the legs (as the legs are to be flush with the shelves).  The whole thing is on the big side, nearly 2" thick shelves and the legs are 2" x 3-1/4".  The mortises are 3-1/4" wide x 2" deep.  The legs are splayed at a 15 degree angle from vertical (when viewed directly from the side).  I kinda like the idea of exposed plugs or tenons just to add some visual interest.  I first thought about a round hole (about 1" dia) and then square loose tenons, filled with colored epoxy.  I think that's gonna take longer than I want right now and am fearful adding the epoxy will end up being a bigger mess than I want as I bet it will run all over as even tiny cracks leak...I know this to be true!  I also am considering counter-bored screws with walnut plugs.  Lastly, I thought about using my fancy-pants Domino and making my own walnut loose tenons/dominos (12 mm).  I have to assume this has been done quite a bit, just looking for any pointers on this method.

You should be able to find some YouTube videos on this, basically, you can make long „sticks“ and round over the length.
Then cut to length as needed.

Some people add small groves for the glue, I made good experience with „smooth“ hardwood Dominos as well.

It’s not rocket science. Just check the dimensions.

Nice!  Any pix?  I was just thinking about something along these lines as I was coming to work this morning...using multiple species.

You could take this a step further and produce the Dominos in different wood species AND in different sizes. You could then Domino a Domino and have a contrasting colored "ring" around the Domino.  [big grin]

I wonder if that's been done before? Could be interesting for the right project.
