Deeper than spec'ed drawers with undermount slides?

I'm looking at replacing some kitchen cabinet doors with shelves behind with drawers. Have used Blum Tandem in the past (25 years ago), now going with Salice Progressa Plus with the push-to-open feature to not require pull knobs/handles.

Here's Salice's diagram:

The "Inside cabinet depth" is 582mm, and as the diagram shows, the applied drawer face will overlap that. So, I could do this pretty easily, but I hate wasting that ~50mm of depth.

I'm thinking I don't actually have to mount the drawer slide so close to the front edge of the cabinet. The spec is for a setback of 4mm, which ties in with the front clips being attached to the inside face of the drawer box (under the bottom, of course), as in this Salice photo:

Clips.jpg

Now, imagine instead of making my drawer side 533mm long, I make it 580mm. Since the back of the slide registers against the outside back of the drawer box, the clip has to be mounted at the 533mm distance from that, which means it'll fall 580-533=47mm short of the inside of the drawer box front. But, looking at the photo above, that's OK - there are 3 screws going into the drawer bottom. Sure, there's provision for 2 screws into the drawer front. I could even glue in a 47mm block to fit in the space and then use all 5 screws.

I realize this means the drawer won't be quite full extension anymore - it'll leave 47mm of the drawer inside the cabinet, but I don't think that's a problem.

Has anyone done this? Is it as feasible as I think? Concerns?

If you want to use the bottom screw holes you’ll need a 1/2” drawer bottom minimium.

By moving the clip back you created a new back plane of the drawer box front. What you want to do will work.

It takes more force to get the Salice clips to lock to the slides than the Blums.

The Salice steel is softer, we’ve had problems with the back hook bending. There is no rear tilt/side to side adjustment without adding an accessory Salice sells.

I am not grasping why you want to move the drawer slides back.

Will the drawers be inset/flush ?

These are Progressa, but I think the dimensions are same as Plus, in an inset application, with the standard mounting positions..

I want deeper than the slide length drawers. If I do everything stock, then there will be about 50mm of wasted space behind the drawers in the cabinet. That's on the cusp, in my mind anyway, of caring. At 75mm or more, I'd definitely care; at 35mm or less definitely not care.

I have done this with blum moventos for the first few draws i built, there is a bit of stuffing around to get the front clip in the right spot, but it will work.
As youve worked out, you will have to mount the slides further back in the space if they mount directly into the rear of the draw, and lose a little at full opening.

For my remaining draws, rather than taking what was on the shelf, i ordered the longer slides.

Keep in mind also, if the available space is close, that a forstner bit or hole saw into the backpanel might get you the extra clearance.
Not really. The back can be at most 16mm so you might get half of that. And, it's not clearance I'm looking for, it's a deeper drawer. My plan could net like 48mm

I have done exactly what you are thinking of doing, with both Blum models. I set the front holder almost two inches back from the front using a block of half inch birch plywood. Some of the drawers are pretty heavy at 50 or 60 pounds. So far no problems after 4 years of daily use in our kitchen.
