2mm setback for KV side mount drawer slide

I am working with some soft close, side mount KV drawer slides, and the instructions say to set the slides back 2mm from the leading edge of the cabinet and the drawer box.

I was thinking the slides should be even with the leading edges, not set back.

Can anyone tell me why there is a set back and whether this is common to most drawer slides? I am thinking it keeps an overlay drawer front tight to the cabinet case, but that is only a guess.

Thanks

I have no experience with the KV slides, but I just finished installing a set of (8) Blum Tandem soft close undermounts. They require a 3mm setback for frameless cabinets. This results in a 1.5mm protrusion of the front of the drawer box from the front edge fo the cabinet. The Blum locking devices I use allow for in/out depth adjustment of several millimeters if I wanted to make them flush.

The Blums have an elongated mounting slot near the front of the slide for slight adjustment of the runner depth. If the KVs are the same, you can install a screw in the center of this slot at the recommended inset and another near the rear of the slide in a fixed, tight tolerance hole and do a trial run. If the KVs are like the Blums, there are many mounting hole options and you could remount the rear, "test fit" screw in another hole if you change the mounting location after your trial run. Good luck!

Most require a setback and I suspect your reasoning is correct - just an allowance for an oops or 2.

i haven't seen any (soft-close) that don't have a setback. when you attach the fronts some people use double sided tape which adds a gap. the 2mm is absolutely necessary for all sorts of weirdness, like room for tilt adjustment, soft close pulling mechanism, any tape in the fronts, etc
