Steve, I hadn't thought about the drywall (plasterboard, as we call it over here) use...this sounds useful. hmm, will give this more thought as a separate purchase!

Yeah, you should. I did the same. I don't have one yet but it's in the top 2 of my wishlist. From all what I've read, seen and heard it's an incredible good and versatile saw with functionality no other type of saw has. And that's how I think you should mainly see the Fein MM, as a multi-purpose saw/cutter. Of course the company tries to play it off as a multi-"anything" tool for marketing purposes, but to me some of their envisioned features seem to fit into the category of "What remotely plausible use can we think of next".

And using the MM as a sander fits definitely in that category, in my opinion. I think the oscillating movement is better fit for sawing than for sanding. Of course sanding with it does work to some extent, but I'd think you'd only take it out for sanding small spots. I'm pretty sure you don't want to do ALL the outer trim of an entire house with it. Unlike with the Deltex.

So for me it's not a question of one or the other, but I want both. If you want to work efficiently and professionaly with the best result, then both tools are invaluable. I got the Deltex, and I can't wait to get the MM.

Oh yeah, and the T15 of course. But that's another chapter. ;D

I've had the Fein Multimaster since 2001.  I went to a wood working show with my wife and she saw the demo.  Called me over and made me watch.  Walked away with one.  I will never regret that decision.  As a contractor who spends as much time dealing with getting rid of old stuff so that I can put in new stuff it has the ability to makes things alot easier.  In some cases it can't be imitated except by the versions just put out by competitors.  As a sander it is ok.  Festool kicks its arse in this category.

Comsumables are not cheap.  I remember dropping 115 USD on a diamond blade to cut out old tile.  Ouch.

Put me on a desert island with power and my one tool might be the Fein MM.

Rick,

I almost feel like I hijacked this thread.  You asked about the Deltex vs. Delta and everyone is trying to sell you a Multimaster.

When you have time you should give one a try though.  But be ready to buy.  I don't know anyone that has one that is not  pleased with it.

No, it's fine Neill, I've found this a really useful thread.  As always, thanks!

While i remember, actually, there's an interesting group test of the Fein MM and a handful of competitors in issue 2 of This is Carpentry (www.thisiscarpentry.com - you can download each issue free as a PDF).  Worth a look if it rocks your boat..!
