i am thinking of getting a mft and i happen to also have the dewalt track saw.

is there a easy way to retrofit the mft for the dewalt track?

Check and see if the Dewalt fits on the Festool rails.  If so no modification is required.  If you also have a Festool TS then I can't begin to talk to the Dewalt cutting the splinter strip and it's location versus a Festool.

this is all from memory so dont take anything i say for 100% truth but i think im pretty accurate in what im about to say...

i believe that the dewalt saw will work with a festool rail (festool saw howerver will not fit the dewalt track), your saw should have two groves in the base plate.. this would obviously be the easiest way to use the mft, especially if  you bought it as a complete set which includes the rail.. ready to cut right out of the box!

fyi, expect some adjustment of the cams in the saws base plate when switching between the festool and dewalt rail

if for some reason you wanted to try to sell the festool guiderail and use your dewalt rail i think you will still be in the clear, although it might require slight modification
i dont think a festool clamp will work with the dewalt rail, (the small dimension of the slot opening at the very bottom of the rail is too tight i think, not the widest internial slot width)    which means the front track alignment tab on the mft wont fit into the slot in the bottom of the dewalt rail, with some very careful filing of the tab this could be remedied, make sure you dont remove to much tab material and introduce slop
the rear hinge portion of the mft rail mount uses a metal bar and two bolts to clamp the rail in place... something tells me this will work fine ( im guessing that the diameter of the bolts is small enough to fit through that tightest dimension of the dewalt rail slot.

hope this helps, Good luck!

The DeWalt will work fine on the Featool rail.  No adjustment needed.  It will cut the anti-splinter strip and be set to go.  I have both a TS-55 and a cordless DeWalt.  The DeWalt cut maybe 1/32-3/64 outside of the Festool cut.  You can adjust it, but I have never bothered.

welcome rust bucket.
how do you find the corless dewalt.
i am thinking about one for small jobs where setting up cables etc isnt worth it.

It was part of their short-lived 28V Li-Ion line.  I don't think they make a cordless version anymore.  It works okay for a few cuts, but it's not a real workhorse.  I mainly got it to break down 5x5 sheets of Russian Birch so I can fit them in my wife's car.  The only place I can get the good stuff is 3 hours south in New Orleans, and their panel saw only has 4' capacity.

I just sold a very lightly used 28v Dewalt Track Saw a few weeks ago.  It worked just fine on the Festool rails since they put the slot into the base for both their own rails and Festool's.

The saw was a fine saw with excellent cut quality for light plywood work - actually a great quality tool except for not variable speed.  I would have kept it if 28v hadn't been discontinued.
