Diefenbach Closing Shop - Another Sign of the Times

I have always had a really good workbench at the top of my woodworking wish list.  I had perused all the usual sites and really liked what I saw on Diefenbach's website.  I periodically looked in to see what was going on and drooling over the beauty of their offerings.  One of the Ten Commandments says that thou shalt not covet. I think in this case an exception is warranted.  A big part of the attraction for me was that I live just a few hours from their location.

Well, today I went on to their website to look again only to find that they have no workbenches available and that they are closing the business.  What a bummer.  I guess I feel responsible for not buying one and helping them stay in business maybe a bit longer.

I guess I will ultimately have to settle for someone else's when I do decide to take the plunge.  I know there are lots of good benches out there but I am still really disappointed for me, for the Company and its employees, and for anyone else who had the same wish I did.

I have a Diefenbach workbench that is about 10 years old and it is nice.  I read it as the US distributor is closing and not necessarily the Diefenbach company.  As I recall, the lady who ran it was named Gaby (nice lady).  I could be that she just decided to retire.

Build your own!  Its a fun project, you save a ton of $$, and you get one that fits your height, methods of work, etc. [big grin]

Steve,

I hope you are right about the retirement.  You would like to think that she might sell her distributorship if that was the case.  It would be nice if someone else picked up the line.  That might be difficult in this economy.

Jesse,

Nice to think about, but with this 65 year old's bad back and two arthritic thumbs and working full time, it's just a what-if dream.  Thanks for the thought.
