Ordering up a domino soon. Can someone explain the difference between the 500e and 500q. Also the pros and cons of each one

Thanks Mike

There's only one model of DF 500 Domino that I'm aware of other than the original models that had the metal pins on the fence changed to plastic paddles for several years now.

On Bob Marinos site he shows a 500e and a 500q for sale. I can not find any literature on why there appears to be 2 models.

Yeah, it must be a mistake.  FYI, the suffixes that follow the model number each have a specific meaning.  The "Q" stands for the Plug-It Cord, as opposed to an attached cord like found on, say, an RS2E sander.  The "E" stands for Electronics -- this might refer to the speed control or possibly a 'soft start' feature.  An "F" on a sander indicates the Fast-Fix system.  Anyway, I believe the correct suffix for the Domino is "Q" as in DF 500 Q -- the original "pin-style" version of the Domino that was released here in the US on April 1, 2007 was also labeled with the "Q" suffix.

Is the price the same for both models listed? when i bought mine they gave me "a domino" and i didn't look inside, only to find out at home that they gave me the normal version and not the set version which contains all the accessories. It's a bit more expensive but allot cheaper than buying the accessories separately. That will teach me.

I believe the difference is the type of Systainer included. The Q is the T lok.

That doesn't sound right... none of the other tools changed designations when going to T lok did they?

i will have to do some checking, but what we sell now is the set, and not the older one with out the goodies.

Sorry to jump in the discussion, but the Q stands for Plug It Cable connection. If a Systainer is included the product name has  Plus  added.

There are currently 2 Domino packages sold in NA...

574432 is the DF 500 Q TL Set. It comes with the Trim Stop & Cross Stop
574332 is the DF 500 Q TL. It doesn't include the Trim Stop or Cross Stop.

Not sure if that's true in the USA -- most of the tools are ONLY available with the systainer here.

I can't think of any tools other than the Shinex that come without a Systainer, and now, a T-Loc. The OF 2000 was available in a cardboard box also but that was a while ago.

To my knowledge, F is for FastFix, E is for MMC Electronics, and Q is for PlugIt Cord.

This is correct as Dan said as well.

Pretty sure that 'E' is a typo, Bob? It appears for both the set and non set version in the pics but no where else . Every where else a 'Q' is the designation. When you click on the pic link it takes you to the 'Q' order page.

I don't think shops have box versions in stock, but in the catalog (at least in europe) you can order the box version of pretty much all their tools. Usually without any accessories and you can also get battery tools without any battery. for some tools that cuts the cost in half.

Thanks for all the answers... Sounds like a typo or at most a very small difference of some sort. I will confirm with Bob before ordering....and thanks for the welcome Seth.

Mike,

You can't order from Bob Marino.  You're in Canada and he's not allowed to sell outside the U.S.  Those are Festool dealer rules.  We have several good Canadian dealers on here.
