Different cord for sander and saw??

I am a new Festool owner so I hope this isn't a stupid question.  I recently bought the RO150 sander and then got the TS55 saw the other day and noticed the plug that plugs into the two tools is different.  This is kind of a pain because now I have to hang both cords on my boom on the vac.  Why would they have different plugs for the two tools?

The cords are different because the two tools tools have different amperage draws. The saw needs the heavier cord. Its not a problem though. The cord from your sander will not fit the saw. However, the cord from the saw WILL fit your sander. So just use the saw cord and you'll be fine. You wouldn't want the lighter cord being used for the saw, that's why they have different ends on them. Its a protection thing, and its actually a great idea on Festool's part. Of course, they could have just used the heavier cords for everything, but they aren't needed for sanders and so forth.

This is an example of logic colliding with expectations. I want a power cord with the tool I buy but when I got around to the practice of using the heavier cord with the vac for all tools I find I have a bunch of light gauge cords going unused.

Maybe a heavy cord should be supplied with the vac but no cord with the tool.
The tools don't come with vac hoses.

Do those light cords that go unused go bad when sitting around?  ;D

Doesn't make much difference to me really. I have the cord from the TS55 or the OF1400 plugged into my vac almost 100% of the time.

Probably not a good marketing move to sell tools without power cords :)

Now, doing away with the lighter cord and just supplying the heavier gauge cords would be a good idea IMO.

Agreed, for what we pay for these tools, its the least they could do.

I figured there was a logic behind this.  I am continually impressed with the thought that goes into the making of these tools.  Thanks for the help.  I'm new to this forum and new to Festool and this is a great resource and has been a big help for me.
