Do any of you use the SYS ³ Toolboxes?

I was considering a SYS3 TB M 137 but I really didn't like the fact the top was just open with no way to close it, making it little more than a crate with a handle despite the handy screwdriver holes.

I ultimately picked up a SYS-SB "tackle box" instead, where at least I can latch it closed.

If you prefer the open toolbox, why? The main benefit I can see is the ability to carry taller items like drills, caulk tubes or spray cans, but if I am carrying my drill somewhere it's going to be in the Systaner³ it came in; is that just me?

If Festool sold something like the Milwaukee PACKOUT™ Customizable Work Top to latch atop it, it would be more useful to me, otherwise it would get full of dust, sawdust and other debris over time; even the ones on the shelf at my dealer were full of dust, and it seems like a pain to have to put a different Systaner³ box atop it, like a Systainer³ Organizer or even a SYS3 M 112.

I can see that they'd appeal to tradies and others, but they've never appealed to me for the dust accumulation issues mentioned.

In my shed between the lathe, drum sander, saws, bandsaw, etc, I wouldn't be able to find any tools in it for the waste.

I'd use an empty systainer instead to throw the tools in.

I do like them. As a matter of fact I am considering buying a third one for jobs at the other house, but I would like one with a drawer below the open compartment.

I use them when I have some job to do and want to take a selection of tools to the location of that job. I just collect what I need and put that in the toolbox. Then I take the toolbox to the job, where I have easy access to the tools without getting them dirty (normally i would just place them on the ground). The lack of a lid makes it easier to quickly put in or take out the tools I need. When the job is done I just clean the tools and put them back where they belong. After that, the toolbox is cleaned and ready for the next job.

I have one for use in the workshop, and another for jobs in other locations. The first one is more or less permanently filled with many of my most used tools, the other is empty and waiting for its next task.

The solution seems so obvious to me that there must be something even more obvious that I am missing:

Don't put this systainer at the top of your systainer stack when you are transporting or carrying your systainers. Put another systainer on top of it. Now it is closed.

Much the same as HDV I use one for grabbing tools for handyman jobs around the house and property. I prefer it to any other similar tote because I can latch other Systainer power tools and such on to it. Usually a drill kit, Sys-CT, or sander. The open factor is nice for those types of jobs.

That's what I thought, it basically takes the place of the "milk crate" box found on other systems.

I like them and have quite a few. I use them to hold adhesives, surfprep materials, workholding and gloves.

In the first stack, every SYS3 is a toolbox, except for the two M337s.

I have two of the Ls in my van, one has my various Wera wrench sets, the other, a 6 and 12" speed square, folding Japanese saw, a 3lb engineers hammer, and a flat pry bar. I also use two Milwaukee trays that are very similar that I use to carry to jobs and hold my 18v Milwaukee and Flex impactors and (Milwaukee 20 pc 1/4'r dill index) in transit, making them quickly accessible.

I have one of the units and like others, I use it to transport various tools (and other stuff) to the job site. The job site could be off-premises, outside in the back yard or downstairs...it all depends where the tools originate from. It's also a great place to keep the Festool level safe & secure.

I love that level, I have two!

I've got a couple of the old taller open Sys and a tackle box. The tackle box does a lot of drill bit duty along with smaller finish tools like scribes, planes, and marking tools. The open top boxes are overflow carriers for sandpaper, glue and whatever else I'm going to need or need to take home. Rain is a constant here, so I hustle them between the truck cab and kitchen. The beauty of the open totes is that they'll carry oversized, tall items, so to my mind a lid, while handy, would also impair their usefulness. The answer to dust is the mini-blower. Just don't use it inside. (y)
