Do I need to use a Festool Vacuum with the Domino?

Ed,

The MINI and MIDI now share the exact same motor as the 26/36/48 models as of mid-year. Any dealer who has purchase inventory of MINI/MIDI since around June should have the newly upgraded models. As mentioned, there's no way to distinguish the newer models from the older.

There was an announcement in our email newsletter, on our blog, here on the forum and several other places.

You can see those specifications listed on our CT site.

Admittedly, I may have forgotten to update the specs in all locations on all of our websites. If I missed it somewhere and you notice it, feel free to bring it to my attention and I'll correct it.

Edit:

Here was the FOG announcement, made by a dealer.

Okay then. I was totally unaware that the upgrade had happened. That's despite looking at the specs over the last three weeks prior to buying one about a week ago.

Shane, www.festoolusa.com still has the old specs here. I didn't bother looking any further at the Midi prior to purchasing. When I checked the blog, I clicked on the Dust Extractors category and didn't see anything in the listed entries. (I had also been looking at McFeelys, which still has the old specs too, but that's not your baby.)

If you haven't done so, head over to any of our websites and sign up for SysNotes, our monthly email newsletter. It'll keep you in the loop about things like the changes to the MINI/MIDI.

Updated, thanks for pointing that out.

It's under dust extractors, it's just been pushed to the second page. http://blog.festoolusa.com/category/Dust-Extractors.aspx?page=2

Will do. Thanks.

Ummmm, I still don't see it. I see mentions of the new HEPA filters and bags, but nothing about the power.

Lots  of info here but no additional comments from the OP. What to do? What to do?  [unsure]

Thank you Brice for answering my specific question about the vac size relative to the pickup for the TS55.

FulThrotl makes the case  in agreeing with my pet peeve about shop vacs - they blow as much as they suck  [eek].

And ccarrolladams, as always, adds much to the discussion. I usually need to read your posts more than once to get the full gist  [huh]  [big grin].

Hope the Op finds the answer. Good luck.

I have a Festool midi and a mid-sized Fein that I use with my Festools. The Fein needs a hose adapter (which Festool sells, very inexpensive) and works as good as the midi. I don't like using the adapter as it lengthens the connection. But if you're buying a new vac, buy the Festool.

Okay here is the latest.  I bought my Domino and tried it today with my shopvac using the 27 mm Festool non anti-static hose which plugged right in to the vac.  Worked great.  Thanks to all for your answers and now I am an official Festool Owner!  Now I have to find a project to use it on.

Aloha,
Rob

Well done Rob - you will love it. If you have not seen any of them already, take a look at Paul Marcel's video review of the Domino 500. It is very good. Also get hold of the pdf file with the US instructions which I think were created by Rick and are very informative and well thought out.

I was busy in the workshop yesterday and used the Domino loads of times. I never cease to be amazed by the accuracy and easy line-ups. For my fine woodwork I used to work to 1 mm but now I can work to the width of the finest scribed line and overall I am probably working to .5mm. A huge improvement on the biscuit jointer and my old morticing machine (which I am about to sell as it is no longer required).

Take care.

Peter
