I was looking at picking up a new drill. I want something that would kind of do it all. Think putting together a deck, cabinets, drill holes, drywall hanging, electrical work, etc. I was looking at the CXS 12 or 18. I realize it going this route it won’t do something’s great. I looked around a bit and it seems some people recommend the TPC but that seems like more than I was thinking if that makes sense.

I lost count of how many drills I own. Some do several things well, and some do one thing especially well. I think you can find a drill that will do several things well, a few things that are manageable, and some things quite beyond its capabilities.

Do you want a battery powered drill or a line powered drill?

Battery. If I need things like a hammer drill, Ill either borrow, rent one or pick a cheap one up because I know those are fairly specialized and very in frequently used for me.

I'd suggest a T18 or C18 depending on your handle preference. If you are talking deck screws and heavier drilling / driving I think the C12 series is limited to a 3/8" chuck while the T18 and C18 come with a 1/2" chuck. You could dial back to a CXS 18 which is also a great drill but not as strong a motor. The T18 or C18 includes the offset chuck option which is nice if you are drilling or screwing close to an edge.

I have a T18+3 and a CXS18 and like both of them a lot.
