Does Anyone Remember

Way back in the early days of YouTube there was a video(s) put up showing a workshop totally built around Festool products. IIRC the owner was a dentist in San Francisco and I always thought it was a promotional video of what was possible using Festool products as available at the time. I can hear his voice now as he spoke with what appeared to be a mild lisp to his speech.

I watched a episode of Cabin Masters on HGTV about a year ago.  They were setting up a new shop.  It seemed that they had every available Kreg tool.

Though they did not demonstrate the tools or mention the name, it seemed like a promotional placement.

They used to end shows with, “A promotional consideration made by “XXXX Company”.  I have not heard that spoke in years despite clearly promotional placements.

I don't know about the dentist detail specifically, but I do remember a guy with an all Festool shop, very clean/organized that would give that vibe.
He seemed to have everything displayed it quite well. Then, they made him mad, with the constant price increases. (across the board, with no apparent value added?) So, he essentially got rid of everything and changed his channel name. I would have started with that name, but I don't remember it either?
He changed it to "The Poplar Shop" and as far as I know, it still exists under that name. (IIRC, the guy's name is Eric)
The most egregious part was that he apparently couldn't let go of the Plug-it cable concept. I totally blame him for the disappearance of the little "tool-side" adaptor that you used to be able to buy, directly from Festool. He must have snapped up every one available, then went about cutting the cords off of the Bosch (and other brands) tools, converting a whole shop to that style, complaining about prices the whole time. All of the Festool was gone, replaced by something else.
I don't know if someone at Festool was offended by this and didn't want it to become a problem? but it sure seems mighty coincidental.
I basically quit watching his channel after that. It seemed petty and even disingenuous. Ok, you are fed up with price increases, that doesn't invalidate the things you already have, just don't buy anything else. The vindictive "getting rid of" things you have promoted for years? I don't get that.

Is this the guy?

Plug-it cable, if I understand the reference correctly, was not a Festool original idea, though their execution may be.

There are dozens of versions of this labeled “RV hookup”.

The only one that did YouTubes that was so hugely Festool that I can remember was Eric.  I don't think that he was/is a dentist.  For some reason I think that he is a service tech for a company that makes some sort of equipment that requires out of facility techs.  Maybe medical?

Eric did a video on why he was ditching Festool.  It has been a while since I watched it but I think his primary reasons were price increases and the switch away from metric here in NA.

I don't think he was the one most responsible for the curtailment of plug-it adaptors.  I believe that was a Member here and also on Talk Festool that was in the Air Force Reserves and also a helicopter pilot who worked in the oil industry.  He tried to get together a group buy and was writing about all the NAINA items he was getting from Europe and also wrote that it got noticed and that put an end to that.  If my memory is correct he even wrote that it was one of founder's family that pulled the plug so to speak.

Eric works for a company that does stuff with industrial pumps and valves. He seems to be a tech

There are more 'tool friendly' versions available - Neutrik, etc.

I'm wondering if you might be thinking of Frank, I believe his username was sittingelf or something along those lines. I had come across some of his posts recently using searches and wondered if anyone has heard from him, he had some interesting stories

I do wish those plug it ends were still available, I started drinking the green kool-aid too late I'm afraid

A few Foggers developed EU sources who would ship contraband over in return for reciprocal services. A friend told me.  ::)

A little sad to see the handles of folks no longer active here. Like many aspects of life, reminds me I've reached the old timer stage.

Thanks for all the suggestions but none of those are who I am thinking of. He was given a single word name in the videos and he himself never made the video, he was only in it because of the amazing workshop he had put together using Festool stuff. I don't know why I even remembered it but the mind works in strange ways sometimes and now it will bug me until I find the answer. I had a lot of YT video saved from the early days but I ditched it all due to the bad quality available at the time.

The first tool manufacturer to offer a plug-in cable was Milwaukee in 1975. They released their new "1/2" Magnum Hole Shooter® drill with a Quik-Lok® cord.

Yes [member=44099]Cheese[/member] that is the one. I went back and checked it yesterday, apparently I mis-remembered the detail of the Plug-it. He did indeed change to a tool-end disconnect, but it was a different brand.
The ones he showed were available (maybe still are) in both male and female versions, purchased separately.

I have that Milwaukee cord that I use with the high speed 1/4" drill and 1/2" hole horizontal shooter.  While I do not use them much, the 1/4" drill lives in the Zyliss horizontal holder that I occasionally into chuck inflatable sanding drums.  It mostly lived with my 40 year old Milwaukee1/2" hammerdrill.  I drilled thousands of mostly 1/4" holes with that drill I gave to my son-in law so he had something bigger than his 12v Milwaukee.  I now rely on a 1 1/8" Milwaukee 18V rotary.

Rarely and I do mean rarely did I ever have to unroll an extension cord. If I needed more length I'd just attach the 25' Quick-Lok cord...that was the bees knees.  [smile]

That Milwaukee hole shooter was my first real drill, darned near broke my wrist a couple times when a big Silver & Demming bit bound up. Around the same time I was using a Sawzall, doing a fair bit of rough carpentry around the first couple houses, and swapping out tools was so satisfying. Made me think I knew what I was doing.

During a fit of misguided clean out of seldom used tools I sold both. I'm sure I'll live to regret it.

those drills were indestructible, in the forty years I used mine I replaced a switch and had the gearbox repacked with grease

AHHHH I know who you're talking about now  [big grin]

His name was "Thyme".  And the video was titled something like "Magical dust-free workshop", but now that's not finding anything for me.

EDIT-

Bingo! it is funny how memory gets distorted over time because I primarily remember the Festool part which I now see as a small part of the videos.
