Does my RAS 115 sound normal?

Does t sound normal. Start with the brushes. Are they in good shape and are the holders clean? Doesn’t really sound mechanical to me and I do have and use an RAS. They are not all that quiet but mine doesn’t sound like yours.

It sounds just like mine. I have two and they are similar. I wouldn't worry about it.

Ya, that’s an RAS…the sweet melody of a grinder buried in a box of rocks.  [smile]

The truth be told…it sounds like a lot of other Festool products, and that’s ok 👌

I'm on my 2nd one, and have 2 other new ones. They all have that sound, but I would say yours sounds slightly worse. RAS 115 is by most used and favorite tool....tons of scribing
Never had any issues in 12 years and never changed brushes.

Hey [member=2330]morts10n[/member] what happened to your first RAS and what blade/attachment do you use for scribing?

I sold it to another cabinet maker who is a buddy, then bought a new one. He is still using it.
I installed  stickfix hard pad and use 40 grit 115 Rubin2 disks

I concur with all the other gentlemen that this sound is perfectly normal for a RAS, typical grinder sound of gears placed at a 90 degree angle.

I'm on my third RAS now, my first from 2004 broke down, motor melted, and my second one disappeared when I was not looking.

I'm lovin my ras 115 bought when I found out that it was discontinued. I have lost the dust fitting at the back of the tool and the green knob that tightens the shroud broke off. Can someone please help me find these parts? I hate schematic drawings they put my brain in a bad place.

How do you lose a part that is not "removable"? It is literally the back of the housing.
If you are thinking that there is some interface part between that oval shaped port and the hose that is missing, nope. You just squish the hose and shove it on. Elegant? nope again, and they do seem to have realized this because the newest OF1010 routers have been up-dated away from that oval port non-sense.
Maybe there is a new version of the RAS coming? Hopefully with the proper Plug-it cable connection too?

Like Crazy RG said, the dust port is molded into the rear of the RAS housing. So if the dust hose port is missing...then it's been broken off of the housing. The housing costs $20.97 and is p/n 488947.

The green lever costs $22.85 and is p/n 487798.

The dust port comes off of my RAS 115 constantly.  It's a seperate piece.  At the factory, it's either a friction fit or an adhesive.  I don't know.  All I know is: it does indeed come off.
