Does this happen to you?

I am constantly amazed at my professional level ability to put something away so I can find it again and then NEVER finding it.  [scared]

I am currently searching for a brand new Kutzall disk that should be somewhere in the shop. So far no joy, but I did find my Hello Kitty dry erase board.  [blink]

Oh well the shop’s not that big, so it should turn up.  [crying]

It might take months, even years, it may even survive a home move..
the relief is that you will be gifted with two or even more than two in the future.. [embarassed]

It’s my nature to buy two identical items (considering it doesn’t cost too much..) if I find something unique or special to me. One is always kept prestine as a spare  [big grin]

I've resigned myself to the Law of Small Objects - If I need a small object, I'd better buy two.  If I buy one, I'll lose it forever, but if I buy two, I'll never lose the first one and have a back-up forever.  [embarassed]

Buying or having more than one identical small tool or item will work ONLY if you don't keep them together or they're in plain sight...DAMHIK! [big grin]

I keep many items in multiple quantity in my shop because I don't want to walk across the shop to get them, and they include: pencils, rules, squares, and tapes.

I was going to ask this same question a couple weeks ago, but forgot.

Setting something down then performing another task and forgetting the location of the item next time I need it is constantly happening to me. Multiple tape measures, rulers, pencils, etc. help. It's really annoying when it's something I only have one of. Like the vacuum floor brush I've been looking for for several months. My shop is in the basement, only one exit and there is no one else here to blame.  Always a fun routine of mine to check the same spot over and over. Like the 7th time I check the same spot, it will suddenly appear there.

Another favorite is when I start to question whether I had something in the first place and it's just my memory inventing things. Things I haven't used in a while fall into this category. Plumbing parts for example. Thought I had a spare toilet flapper that I needed recently. Couldn't find it in the usual plumbing spares cabinet so had to go buy another one.

I question my mental capability more and more frequently.

Three household moves later I struggle to find things that used to have a specific place. When we first moved I had 74 bins and tons of cardboard boxes. Now I have no idea what or where anything is. I always joke about walking around with two items in my hands trying to get them into a sensible location. I tend to spend hours a week doing so. Frustration abounds as I can't organize until I dig out our under house storage, for which I did buy a plate compactor today. *sigh* it is going to be a long time before I am fully organized with cabinetry built.

"The fastest way to locate a lost object is to purchase a replacement"

Found on Garagejournal.com

I once spent quite a few minutes looking for my tape measure after 7 hours of cutting aluminum, storefront extrusions, finally  found it in my left hand...closed up, went home had a couple beers.

Yes, to excess! I am constantly trying to remember where I put something so I wouldn't forget where I put it.

The really frustrating thing is, that you find it in the last place you look.  [sad]

The other day I bought some memory enhancing pills. Still trying to remember where I put them.

Go and look for another tool and that one will show up.  Guaranteed to show up if you go buy another one.

"A place for everything and everything in its place."

I was looking for my staplegun just under a year after moving.  Finally found it, but couldn't find the staples.  Eventually found the staples but then I couldn't find the staplegun.

I bought a Sys-Mini for my staplegun and I haven't misplaced it or the staples since.

There are only 2 or 3 places in the house that I will set my phone down if I'm not carrying it on me.  The only time I've had to have my wife call my phone to listen for the ringtone was when I put it down in a non-usual spot.

I could probably find them, but I aint sure that my memory of the name of the pills was correct when I bought them! [tongue]

I bought a label machine, wish I know where I put it
Oddly I know exactly where mine is. It was one of the hand carried two items at a time that found a proper home in one of my tools boxes. Just don't ask me where the spare ribbon paper for it is.

I call them Gumballs.... it’s similar to my memory. Someone tells me something and it goes into my memory but I have no idea where it went?? Remember the gum all machine when you put a quarter in, turn the knob hoping for a grape gum but you watch helplessly as a white gumball goes around .... same thing meaning you never know what’s coming out.

So every day is a new day.

Looking for things is kinda like Xmas, you never know what your gonna find until you unwrap.

I just read my response, looks like I’ll need another quarter
