Are all Domino's built like this or was mine repaired and sent out like this?  Looks like there is a Helicoil insert in the base of the machine.  I went to remove the accessory base and the insert came out with the screw  I don't have any metric imperial Helicoil components.  How do I install this?

This happened to me.

It is almost impossible to reinstate a helicoil that has come out because it reduces in diameter as you use the tool to screw it in.

In AU the festool warranty service doesn't replace helicoils only the complete base. I found that it was much cheaper, quicker and easier to just buy the stainless steel helicoils on ebay and fit them myself, than it was to lose the tool for several weeks while it was being shipped and repaired.

I also used some loctite high strength retaining compound when I inserted the new helicoil to ensure that it didn't happen again.

I think that the original helicoils used by festool are too short and the ones that I used were longer.

BTW the replacement helicoils were about $3 delivered for a packet of 10.

Yours is normal, what’s not normal is that the helicoil came out.  [eek]

You’ll need to get a new helicoil or send her in to Festool. Helicoils come with a small tang that allows you to wind it around an insertion mandrel. Once inserted, the tang is broken off and the helicoil expands to tightly fit the tapped hole. Without a tang, you can’t reduce the helicoil OD to fit inside the threaded ID. Sorry... [sad] [crying]

I completely forgot about the tang.  It's been awhile since I've had to use a Helicoil.  I have a bunch of the smaller sized imperial inserts and prewinders but no metric.  I looked and it's like $30 for a kit, which I'd only use once.  I don't have to have to ship the tool back for something so small.  Time to call around to friends.  Thanks!
