Domino 574447 - How Old Can This Be? Buying Used Locally

I'm supposed to meet and buy a "2 month" old Domino 700 for $1k.

Its in the systainer and is the 574447 kit. How old could this be? Warranty card still there and hasn't been registered.

Should I ask for serial and somehow look it up?

That # is the SKU #. Maybe the serial # is more telling?

Regardless of its age (2 months or 12 months), the saving would amount to over $800 US. I'd take a look (and spin). Bring some scrap wood along, assuming the seller is ok with testing the machine. If not, be careful!

The tool will have a data plate with the SNR, TNR etc. and on there is the year of manufacture. Also, on the Systainer, on the data label, there will be a date code next to the (11) section.

Festool puts the month and year of manufacturing on the sticker with the serial # and model #.  I think it is in lower right hand corner of that sticker.

Numbers on tool and systainer check out. Only issue is no receipt. It was made in July 2021. Without a receipt I won;t be able to register for warranty.

If it can be assured in some way that it's not stolen goods, I wouldn't worry about warranty, given the amount of discount. All warranties lapse after a while.

Could the seller tell you where he or she bought it? The vendor may have a record, and could issue you a replacement receipt. Lee Valley Tools does that.

Only 2 months old, but no receipt? I would not trust this. Who just loses the receipt for his 1899 dollar tool and then decides to sell it for half price.

Agree. And what vendor would give a third party a 'replacement' receipt. They'd become party to a warranty scam if a claim was made. Unless the warranty is transferrable of course. But if it was the seller would have included that in his sales pitch (I know I would have) and be asking more for the tool.

Someone said this smells fishy. Could be true, like a 2month old beached whale fishy.

Agree with the above replies. If you decide to proceed use some caution.

Because of the prevalence of fraud and out right theft once you get to seller, almost all of the law enforcement entities around me have opened up their building lobbies to facilitate these transactions. There is video surveillance and officers around.

Correct. Lee Valley Tools only issues replacement receipts/records to customers who have been given a customer ID#, which links to every purchase made by that ID# holder. People who lose the whole garage stuff to a fire can request a history of all past purchases, and present it to the insurance company. No customer #...no luck.

I'd contact the seller and ask for a replacement receipt to accompany the deal. If he or she can't meet that requirement, simply walk away from it.

Same here. Kijiji sellers and buyers are welcome to do their deals at any police parking lot.

A whale isn’t a fish, Bob. It’s a mammal. Or an insect. Or something. But definitely not a fish ….

Festool keeps track of all serial numbers in the sense that they know what # they sold to what dealer. If you have the serial number, you can always call Festool, ask them for what dealer it originated from and then call said dealer to inquire...

Did the seller pay by cash? Unlikely, eh? I'd trust him/her if he/she could show the purchase on a credit card statement.

I never said a whale was a fish. I said it smells fishy. Many things can smell like fish that aren't.
Besides. It was said in jest, not a scientific research paper.

I know that, Bob. I was just kidding around as well. Every time I hear ‘beached whale’ I think about the 8-ton whale washed up on a US beach many years ago. Local Government had no idea what to do with it or how to move it - so they called in some guy to blow it up with dynamite. The results were HILARIOUS. There’s a YouTube video of the event somewhere. Worth searching for, it will make your day.
