So First time Festool purchase, ordered a new Domino 700 and a Midi I.

Originally I thought something was going to be wrong with the Midi as it was pretty crappy packaging but everything looks good with it.  Pull out my 700 and it has Dings and cuts all along the lower face of it were the cutter comes out (The Aluminum part).  I call the company and asked if I received one that had been used or a floor model or something and they assured me that it was brand new. They offer to replace it or knock $75 off the $1500 tool.  I asked them for the replacement which they said they just received a large order of them.  I get a call back a little later that they all look that way.. some are worse than others though.

At this point I call Festool USA to talk to them about the issue, they get my info and were I purchased it from and they get in contact with the company and back with me and say they are having another one sent and sent me a return label for the one I have.  I informed the lady at Festool that the company I received it from stated that all the ones they received had this issue.

I received my new one Saturday and pulled it out and the face does look much better except for a weird ding in the corner which I guess I'm going to have to take a file after as the ding displaced the metal outwards so it will cause it to scratch the wood or leave a dent if I push down very hard.

I get that it's a tool and tools get dings but I equate it to my truck, It was pristine when I got it and all the dents and scratches I put there myself.. I didn't purchase it pre dented.  For a $1500 tool I would expect better QA before it leaves Festool.  It doesn't seem to be the company I purchased it through as all they ones they are receiving from festool are like that.  And I don't see anything in the packaging that would have caused that in shipping, it's held pretty secure so I can only assume they are getting beat up before they are packed.

Is this normal from Festool? I shot them another email this morning and waiting to hear if they are just going to have the company I purchased through send me another one with the same sort of issues..

The dings are probably part of the manufacturing handling.

Having said that, I checked my DF500 (6 years old +, in regular use), and found no similar blemishes. Such dents don't seem to be on the DF700 images I found on Google. May be some DF700 owners here could shed a light on your observation.

Somehow from other observations, I got the feeling that the QC dept. could learn a thing or two from the SawStop's counterpart.

I would have taken that $75 offer and bought myself a beer.
I would have tried to talk them into doubling it so I could by myself two beers (one leg is hard to stand on).

Jokes aside: a 1.5k$ machine shouldn't have a workpiece contact part that'll scratch the workpiece.
Will head out of take some picture of my DF 700, brb.

Jeez...beer must be expensive in Europe...I just paid $14.95 for a six pack (Mad Elf) and thought that was up there.

No, we just drink more of it.

Here are the pictures of a Domino 700XL, bought 2015, has seen light use, exploded end of 2016 and was fixed by service, seen further light use (plus one encounter with gravity):

Here's mine manufactured in 2014. Lots of little dings, no big deal. The one ding that would alarm me on yours is the third photo...that one's bad.

I have never bought a Festool that didn't look brand new when I opened it. I only returned one for a new one because it was not working properly. I would return them until you get one that is essentially perfect or you decide just not to buy the tool. There is no reason to keep a Festool you are not satisfied with during the first 30 days.

My DF-500 and DF-700, didn’t have any dings or digs as such when new but, both had a fair few scratches. I must say, both of mine look like they were sent out before being finished properly. I had to clean both up with a small fine file, especially the site line triangles on the DF-500.

The function of both machines has never suffered as a consequence, as the marks are cosmetic.
My first ever DF-500 from a long time back, looked better finished than my latest machines.

Well Update - The Company I was purchasing them through, all their stock seems to have issues on the face.  FestoolUSA is now having their head of QA going through all the ones they have in stock and finding one that doesn't have issues and sending it out.  Guess we wait and see what he comes up with.

When i buy a tool. First thing i do is plug it in, try it out, if does what its suppposed to do. awesome Im good and get busy with it.
