I have put together several melamine cupboard carcasses recenly  and have been perplexed that if the carcase is viewed from the side, the one edge of the top and bottom panels is about half a millimetre high and the opposite end is low by the same amount.

Yesterday when adjusting the sliding fence for different board thicknesses i noticed that there is a few millimetres of play in the sliding fence. The effect of this is that the fence can be clamped at a slight angle to the alignment pins unless great care is taken. My theory is that this is causing my problem

Has anyone else experienced this problem and is it normal for the fence to have play in it?

The fence shouldn't have any play at all. I'd recommend you call Festool Tech support Monday morning and see what they say.

I have had what sounds like the same problem. The solution I found was to slide the little plastic caps off the top of the fence, pull off the fence, and wash the contact surfaces down with lacquer thinner before re-assembling. My guess is that the tool came out of the factory with a light sheen of oil. Other people have had other solutions to this problem. Go to the thread entitled "Domino design flaw?" It has a lot of interesting feedback.

Yes and just before you put it back together give it a bit of a sand  makes loads off difference keeping the fence solid when you tighten it.
