Domino Connectors for Adjustable Shelves

I'm in the beginning planning stages of a rather large built-in bookcase project. I am going to do 32mm spaced holes throughout.  My original plan was for shelf pins, but I just took a look at a video of the Domino connectors and the ones that work with 5mm holes. At first blush, that looks like it would add considerable strength to the overall structure compared to shelves laying on pins.

I'm not sure I would do the case joinery with the connectors, as I don't need it to be K-D, but for the adjustable shelves, they look appealing.

Any experience or comments out there?

if your looking for added strength/ weight holding ability of the shelfs using the LR 32 system,

I bought and use (for that situation) a 1/4" bit (6mm) to use in my 1010 for the shelf pin holes. They are a bit larger then the 5mm pins that come with the LR 32 kit and can hold more weight.

Thanks for that. I could go 1/4", but they're still just pins, where the Domino connectors actually lock  to the uprights.

Jeff,

I might be missing something, but if you are going to bore 32mm holes in the sides of the case, and insert the domino ~ 1 inch long connector "spoon" and then have the set screw connector inside of your shelf, I don't see how you could actually get the shelf over the spoon connector with fixed sides.

I prefer the angled brackets with a screw hole on the bottom to shelf pins, something like these:

[eek] Didn't think about that. You're right. It would have to be all K-D (carcase included) and shelves could not be later moved without dismantling the whole assembly.

Thanks, you may have just saved me from calamity.

I still might go with the system, using the Connect fittings in some shelves to provide stability and then using shelf pins between.
