Domino df 500 alignment problem

I just got my domino and went to align the sight gauge however I'm not able to move it far enough to the right to line up. Is this normal? Do people generally just file it down to fit? I also tested the etched centerline on the bottom plate of the tool and that seems a bit out of alignment as well, I don't think there's a way to adjust that, is there?

Sorry to read of your issues.  Personally I would suggest that you contact your dealer and arrange for a replacement based on what you wrote.  The adjustment for the etched line / cutter is not a user made adjustment if my memory is correct so it would need to be sent in for service.  Quicker to just return /exchange probably.

I've contacted beaver tools a bit an exchange, I'm not sure what their process is for exchanges, if for some reason they won't exchange it (or would want to charge me shipping) would the festool warranty cover this? From what I understand they cover shipping. I've havent had to deal with a festool return yet.

The sight gauge shouldn't need alignment out of the box.  So given that you also suspect some issues with the bottom plate alignment, I would say this is definitely a dealer/service issue.

I would suggest that you call the Festool Service Department and make an inquiry on Monday.  Then you will have that info in hand before you hear back from Beaver Tools.  I would caution you that it will be the first "working day" in many customers' minds so if you can call them early in the day it might be better for you.  I am not saying that Festool has a ton of problems; many customers call with questions about new tools that they may have recently received as gifts.  The service number is even printed on the label on each of your tools for your convenience.

Sorrt I gave you wrong information earlier about the sight gauge  -- I'm still learning all there is to know about the tool.  So I went back myself and checked whether I might have my own alignment issues, and noticed that my boards ended up proud left by .005.  I was reticent at first to adjust for such a slight misalignment, but having had success calibrating the edge pins to .0015, I decided to give it a try.  Loosened the screws, nudged the sight gauge ever so slightly to the right, and upon testing the fix found that the machine was dead on, to the point where a finger can barely feel the joint.  Just impressed at how the Domino, despite being such a heavy duty tool, is so easily adjustable, whether in terms of calibration or of changing out the bits.
