Domino End bevels

Good info everybody involved. In situations like this it would be nice if Festool had a company representative on this forum who could feedback on things like this. It's likely not an 'issue' for most people but for those who want through tenons for example, it would be annoying.

Some time line info would be handy for sure. So far as through tenons, I'd be making my own with a round over bit, the grooves on the edges I don't think are a good look for exposed through tenons.

The search results do not indicate a specific "upgrade date" for the addition of chamfers to the wooden tenons, implying they have been part of the design or were incorporated early in the product's life.

I had a look through the later catalogs, but Festool re-used so many shots it's impossible to tell when they went to the final chamfer version. All the tenons I bought at the time for my DF700 had the later chamfer, so I'm guessing around 2012 or so the change was made, unless I bought the DF700 later than I recall which I'm pretty sure isn't the case.

Well, and there is also the issue that nowadays a lot of CGI is used for catalogs and websites. IKEA started doing it at least ten years ago & I am convinced that a fair portion of the images of newer products on Festools website is generated imagery,. To be fair: product photography can be quite expensive and keeping a consistent look and quality thru the years can be very difficult, so I don’t blame firms that do this. But they should be honest about it, IMO.

Another reasonable explanation is that when production demands exceeded the capacity of the original production line, a second machine was put in place. The new machine had the chamfering capability that the original machine did not, and adding that capability to the original production line was either very difficult (read “expensive”), or impossible.

Which would lead to the current situation where both chamfered and unchamfered dominoes are seen on the market place.

And while this seems reasonable, it also seems un-Festool-like. So I am throwing it out there as a possibility, but it seems unlikely to me.

This is the type of thing where accountants make engineering decisions, where statements like this are given in design meetings, “We only exceed production capacity 3 or 4 times a year. So we use the new, chamfer-capable machine all year long and the old machine only when it cannot keep up.”

I made multiple outside benches and used the Sipo Tenon Stock. After cutting the to length I sanded a bevel on each end. It makes inserting them and assembling the parts a little easier. I have no issues if Festool is adding a bevel to new domino tenons. I doubt it has any effect on strength.

I just went and looked at my domino tenon stock. All of the smaller ones have square ends, but the larger ones do have bevels. No idea when I purchased them, but I conclude this has been going on for a while.

Yes, and hence not sold in the big packs. Only per 130. (And 20 pieces in the KV-SYS D8 set... a set that pre Sys^3 also came in a smaller box..

When is any AI, ever?

For me, all the time. AI is fantastic in pulling past data, such as recently when I needed comparative info on productivity research projects. It gave me number, spending amounts, etc. Previously with Google, I could find the same info but not with one single inquiry.

Another AI help I really appreciate is when I want to find the source or background for a photo or an extract of a text or statistics.


In many cases, the presentations were found to be either misleading or misinformation when I reviewed their actual sources. It took just a mintue or two to fact check what I had been fed. Without AI, who would have wanted to spend 15 minutes or even more for that?

A big user of AI here. Because of AI, I was able to show one of my neighbors, a retired engineer, how much garage he was being fed or feeding others.

Yeah I can imagine the safe dosage for eating garage isn't very high. Would that by any chance be AI-generated garbage?

All it does is rehash a ton of usually low-quality data. It hallucinates all kinds of crazy sh*t.

And because of it, RAM prices went ballistic and now HP isn't shipping my company the new computer that I actually need... They should put a $0.05 tax on every AI prompt.

Don't know what low-quality data you have had experience with. Mine haven't disappointed me -- so far, at least.

I know new technology adoption is not a straight line, and like the internet when it first came out, there are always doubters.

AI or Generative AI or Super AI is nothing but a technological development and advancement.
