Helll i am Peter from Holland, and i am a woodworking enthousiast :).

I want to buy my first Festool, as i am always using Bosch Proffesional and Makita, also because these brands doesnt have a Domino :). Now i was searching on Aliexpress for some woodclamps and there i saw this Ad ttp://m.aliexpress.com/item/1866765163.html do you guys think it is ok? The seller tells me that it is genuine Festool and are removing old stock and selling it for promotional prices.

Worries about authenticity, warranty issues and actually receiving the product aside, the only way to order stuff appears to be in pallet size lots. The ad you link to is a lot of 30 for 8300 USD

rvieceli, I suspect Peter may not be called Peter in real life.

Apologies to Peter if you are a real person with a legitimate question about buying your first 30 Domino's but this smacks of advertising for a site.

I am Peter in real life, maybe my question looks to much to an advertising but its not.. I hoped that somebody already had some experience with it. You can also buy 1 from them..

Looks like they have the CXS drill for ~$70, as long as you want 300 of them.

I have ordered from AliExpress before.  Got my stuff, but shipping by China Parcel is very slow.

Of course, you have to worry about gray market stuff, and these may not carry the famous Festool warrantee if not sold by an approved vendor (like Bob or Toolnut).

You are not Peter in real life and I'm not sure why you would be deceptive about your name.

Ali Express is not an authorized dealer for Festool. Any purchase from them would not be covered by our warranty.

Buyer beware.

In a case like this how would a buyer know or confirm a dealer is legit? Also what happens when buying Festool from a former dealer? For example closing inventory purchases from Rockler? Are they also still reporting to Festool for the warranty?

Paul, when in doubt, contact Festool to verify the authenticity of a dealer. What they say about a deal that seems too good to be true is usually the case. Also, all of the countries maintain a list of authorized dealers on their website.

While Rockler is no longer a dealer for Festool, you are still purchasing from an authorized dealer for any inventory that remains and we would, of course, honor the warranty in that case.

Allow me to quickly add that I personally, not just as a Festool employee, don't want to see anyone get burned. I had mentioned in another thread about a TV show I had seen (60 minutes or some other news type show) where they had a segment on counterfeit goods from China, specifically Beats headphones. Customers thought they were buying Beats at deep discounted prices only to find out they were cheap imitations. Have a look for yourself at the reports on the web - https://www.google.com/search?q=china+counterfeit+beats

Unfortunately, China has a growing reputation for this type of thing. I have personally seen photos of tools manufactured in China that appear to be replicas of our tools but usually in different colors. I highly doubt they are made to the same quality and precision as our tools. At trade shows, you will see Asian men roaming the show floor with cameras taking pictures, presumably to try to create knock offs. This is damaging to the brand and our economy.

There has been a lot of Hiliti coming out of China very cheap.
I've seen video where a buyer showed the difference between his authentic and knock off.....  e.g. i think it was a TC-7C Rotary Hammer drill with Chisel function.  The issue with the Knock off version was the chisel function was no existent.   + many other cosmetic differences.

AliExpress is a part of Alibaba, they are effectively the same org. As far as I understand it they are a B2B setup and a HUGE one at that. AliExpress is a little like any other online market place (Amazon, Ebay, etc) but without the usual assurance and recourse most of us are used to. Also, to be fair it wouldn't be AliExpress / Alibaba who would have a relationship with Festool (or any other OEM / Supplier) should one exist, that would be with the companies selling under the Alibaba umbrella.

I agree there does appear to be a lot of (poor) reverse engineering of well known branded tools coming from the far east, however, I suspect most of us on FOG are here because we understand that you get what you pay for.

Festool has all of their dealers listed on their US as well as international websites. That said anytime you see discounted Festool items you know something is wrong. I have seen some discontinued tools discounted, but even this is very rare. It is universally true "that if it sounds to good to be true then is probably is not". You can apply this to just about every deal you run into in life.

A quick search for Festool on Alibaba turns up 100's of hits. Most are just using the name as a search term, but some are using the actual product pictures that I am certain have been lifted from one of the Festool websites. It's too bad nothing can be done to stop this, but the Chinese are masters at it and don't care. Our government makes an effort to prevent it, but there is no way you can go through all of the containers that enter our ports. On the other hand NYC could care less. Chinatown is rampant with business selling knockoffs as are the streets around Times Square. As an example there are individuals carrying blankets filled with designer purses that are laid out on a street corner. As soon as anyone who questions the legitimacy of the purses shows up (or the police) they grab the corners of the blanket and carry their goods off. Everyone knows what is going on, but the police don't even bother to do anything. It's too bad there are enough people who will do anything to get certain name brands and don't care if they are real or not.

Your quote is misquoted but I agree

I just purchased a domino 700 on ebay, was that a mistake?

When you get it, check out the serial number and check with Festool.

A tool purchased from someone who purchased from an authorized dealer would entitle you to have the warranty transferred to you.

There were 5 Domino XLs being sold by a single guy on eBay and it was reported here. I took it upon myself to try to contact the seller and asked for a serial to verify it was not stolen and got no response. That alone raises an eyebrow. If you or one of our other forum members bought one of those five XLs, please send me the serial number and I'll check to make sure they are not reported stolen. Just odd for one person to have five NIB tools that are all the same model.

I agree with Shane and I have experienced the Off-Shore tool fraud decades ago when it was first starting with a drill press where the spindle taper was off by a degree or so and the dam thing kept falling out whenever I tried to drill a hole.

No more so called sales crap for me!  Let the buyer beware is so appropriate today and you will find out that you got burned too late to do anything about it.  Stick with reputable dealers and brand name companies for quality and dependability.
