looking for some help on domino glue ups and found this group. I am using domino joints for an exterior wood (cedar) garden gate frame. Stiles and rails are glued to be 2" thick and each piece is about 5" wide. The gate is aprox. 5' wide and 5'-6" tall. I have two stiles and three rails with one angled support between bottom and mid rail.
My first question was the type of glue to use exterior type like titebond, or polyurethane type like Gorilla glue or an epoxy? I can preplan and stage my glue up process to save time, but I'm still sure a few extra minutes glue set time wouldn't hurt.
My 2nd question involves the actual glue up. Glue in the mortises and a little on the domino seems the most agreed on practice for the strongest joint. But I'm not sure whether or not to glue the joining stile and rail surfaces also? I know it would require some extra clean up. Any thoughts?
