I am making a triangle flag display case where i dont want to use metal fasteners or splines of any sort, I want it to be all hidden domino's. I have pretty much figured it out, however I have to hold the domino on wood ends that are 45 degrees angles and if the domino isnt held perfectly still in the exact spot then the angles wont line up as they should.

I can secure the work piece in different ways so that they dont move but the tool can still rock on the angle if not held perfect. I am wondering if anyone has done this type of mitered joinery and if you have any tips or ideas for jigs?

completed case

this is the bottom piece right end

bottom piece and right side piece going together ( this is where i sometime have trouble, if the domino rocks on the angle or it;s not perfectly flat against the piece it can mess up the mortise and then the angles wont come together perfect )

top point where left and right come together (dont usually have any problem on this joint)

hope this makes sense, thanks in advance for any help, ideas

If the display bottoms are never going to be visible, you could just plow right through both pieces at once. (I have the XL, not sure what you are using). But if the must be hidden even from under, then I would take my time, line up all the marks, use a set up that would restrict the domino movement, like clamping an extra piece of wood along the scrib line to press the domino against. (I need to make an image of this, not enough words in my head right now to explain this properly.)

Why not mitre the bottom joints?

the idea behind this design in that all the cuts are at one angle (45 degrees), if i mitered the bottom then I am changing settings to accommodate 22-1/2 degree cuts & and 45 degree cuts, both on the kapex and domino, plus i dont think it would help eliminate my main problem of the domino "rocking" on the angles

i have the 500 domino, do you mean make one cut with the domino from the bottom piece while the pieces are joined (maybe locked into a jig)? that might work and provide for a flatter surface to sit the domino on for a more stable cut, i would just have to make sure i didnt drill through the side piece!
