Domino Horizontal Position Gauge

Howdy folks,

First question for you all, after lurking here for a while now.

For the first time today, was setting up the domino to use the horizontal position gauges, to rebuild a stand for a fish tank.

When i placed the gauges into the notches, i could not quite get them to seat completely into the base of the domino.  When using a straight edge or placed on a flat surface, there appears to be 1mm or so gap, leaving the base of the machine in the air.  And yes, they are located on the proper sides.

I know this would not be a problem when working at 90deg to the surface, but when working on edges, with a support under it, the 1mm is a major difference.

I may be able to adjust the keyhole shape on the gauges, but want opinions before doing so.

Thanks in advance,
Steve

That routinely happens with mine.  Like you said, no big deal if you are using the 90* fence at 90*, but since you aren't, they would be a major problem.

When I really want them flush (still with the 90* fence, but just because I want to make them right...), I push really hard or press the fence unit down on a piece of oak to help register them.  They still wouldn't be flush enough for what you want.  My only suggestion would be to double-stick tape some 1/8" hardboard to the bottom of the fence unit, although that might bring the centerline of your Dominos up too high.  [unsure]
