Domino, it's not just for joinery

I've only had my Domino 500 a couple of weeks, but I've already come to appreciate that it's not just good for joinery, but any time you need a slot cut in something for any reason.  I have a basement workshop where I like to mount all my hand tools on wall holders.  I recently found a Stanley drywall saw in a box which didn't have a holder, so tonight I grabbed a scrap of maple, cut a long 5mm Domino slot that the saw blade fit through, cut to length, drilled some mounting holes, and screwed to the wall - quick and easy without any other more tedious method to cut the slot.

Yeah, just have to make a thousand more of those and I'm in the clear  [eek]

I did something similar for my new bench. You can also use the Domino machines for setting in hinges, mortice locks (DF700 mainly), key holes and loads more. I wonder if anyone has tried it with floating tenons?

I've used mine for a couple of things similar to that , where you need an elongated hole for adjustment. Much quicker than setting a router up.

I've used it with washer head screws for adjustable drawer fronts, and elongated holes for mounting table tops and such.

I made a pegboard using dominos.

This has been in use for four years now and I've never had to glue any of the Dominos.  Here's a pic of the base board with just the Domino mortices.

Built a little caddy for my Domino bits that rests on the board as well for easy access.

I've used mine for table buttons, extending door jambs, architrave mitres, solid wood counter top joining and elongated slots for fixing, keeping systainers on van shelves and occasional loose tenon joinery. Once you own it it takes over your joining methods!

The peg board idea could be expanded by using the custom length dominos for the Domino 700. With a deeper mortise for support I think a domino several inches long could be used. And I bet it would hold several pounds of weight?

I like the "domino pegboard" idea, so I don't want to be a "wet Blanket" ,but, would dowels do the same job? You could put them in on a bit of an upward angle to keep tools from sliding off.  Just a thought.

I used my Domino XL in a cello project.  I needed to bring the edge of some hard and flamed maple to 7mm thickness, and gouging was getting old fast.  I just cut overlapping mortises around the edge.  BTW, I finished the cello this weekend, and it's being played as I write.

hopper,

No need to apologize, at least to me!  I have not purchased a Domino yet.  However, I'd like to use Dominos to hold smaller stuff once I take the plunge.

I put up Wall Control pegboards in my shop a couple years ago.  They are metal, with locking hooks on each hangar.  They come in a variety of colors.  Lots of different "hangars" to choose from.  I bought a kit from Amazon that had two panels and a big assortment of hangars, including shelves. These things will hold a lot of weight.

Now THAT is cool! Are you also the one playing it? If so, I am in awe of your talents.

No, Wow, it's for my younger brother, who is an accomplished amateur, but too thrifty to buy himself a proper instrument. It was an exhilarating and exhausting project.  I also use the Carvex, the CT, the RO90, and the CXS quite a bit.
