Bob,
You make a valid point, except for the 30 return policy Festool offers. With that 30 day return policy, then the dates for your "specials" are extended to 30 days before the start date. If I wanted to be a jerk, I could make my purchase today. Is the tools for a week or two. Return then under the 30 day rule and then immediately make the exact same purchase again, without even leaving the counter at the same shop. I would then have the lower price and Festool would be stuck with a bunch of used tools they can't sell as new.
I would think that it's in Festool's best interest, on a limited basis, to offer the sale terms to customers who will make a purchase in this time period before the sale.
You mention Festool's reasons for the start date. My bigger curiosity is why they didn't put a gag order on this information. Letting it leak out is what crated this catch 22 situation.
