I noticed there hasn't been much talked about the two accessories that make up the Domino 'Kit' version so I did a short review of them.  With bonus falling domino action!

Like you I got the kit with these accessories when I bought the DF 500.  Seems I always get the kit and most times am happy the the extra accessories.  Like you I have some issues with the cross stops and cannot remember the last time I used them.  The trim stop is good but for a hobbyist like me pencil marks would be fine.  Thanks for taking the time to share.

Speaking of time.....how long to set up all the dominos?

I don't use them often simply due to them being most useful when doing batches of parts. And as shown in the video there are some problems with them. However sometimes they can be quite useful so here are a couple tips on the cross stops that I have found ............

Don't use the narrow setting on either piece. Go medium or wide for both. In most situations the linear alignment of pieces can be easily adjusted with a few mallet taps. And this would be needed even if going narrow on one piece and wider on the other anyway. Using wider settings on both pieces gives the maximum room to align pieces.

I have found that stack up error is reduced by placing the pin firmly against the end of the previous mortise but NOT  pulling it tight  to the end. I first figured pulling tight would ensure minimal variance by making sure the reference was always the same. But in practice I found that pulling tight tended to "stretch" the spacing by a tiny amount therefor stacking more error not less.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The other thing I find is that frequently the stops are much longer than needed and get in the way. So I bought a second pair and cut them short.

I don't want to talk about that... [crying]  There was many times where I was mostly setup and then accidently knocked it over.  What was even more upsetting was the number of times I had it half finished, or even completely finished but then realized I left a letter out of Festool!

I’m surprised Festool has never developed an indexed drilling template that integrates with the MTF for the domino.  It would be something similar to Mafell’s to make it easier to align dominos on longer joints.

It would make more sense than trying to align one mortise off the next Mortise using pins.
