I am trying to see a scenario where strength would be an issue with the original used in most scenarios. It seems to me that doing double domino's would provide a superior solution to a single domino from the XL. My reasoning is that the glue surface would be increased if double tenons were used versus one large tenon. Am I missing something here in terms of strength?
Can anyone identify a scenario where a larger tenon would be required? I can't think of any. Is the benefit just a reduction in joinery time?
I think your logic sound for small to moderate sized projects. Of course there are certainly scenarios that could benefit from a large tenon, or multiple large tenons. Think larger scale projects like a 8 foot entry door.
