Domino Question

My wife got me a Domino for my anniversary last week,  My shop has a great dust collection system already and since I am going to have a couple of other Festool pieces on my Christmas List I am trying to figure out how to use the Domino (and later a Sander, Router, etc ) with my current Powermatic Dust Collector. Can I buy a hose and if so what size adapters would I need to get to attach it to a 4 inch or 2 1/2 inch dust collection port? Until I get something set up, can I use the Domino with out dust collection or will it just clog up?

Welcome to the forum!

The Domino should always be used with dust extraction for the reason you stated.  I'm not sure I can offer any specifics on the connections needed to hook into your existing DC system although there may be other members here who have done this and can offer some advice.  I can tell you the ID/OD of the connector on our hose.  You can use the 27mm anti-static hose if your DC system does not have anti-static capabilities to save money on the hose.  The connector is 52mm/58mm (ID/OD).  You can probably take the hose to your local woodworking supply store and find a reducer that would serve your purposes.

Edit: You will probably want to use a blast gate to regulate air flow, especially when using the sanders.  Otherwise, depending on the CFM of your system, you may find that the sander is actually suctioned to the workpiece which would not provide optimal results.

Thanks - that helps - I think I will order a hose with the assumption tthat I should be able to make it connect - As far as tenons are concerned for standard 3/4 inch to 1 inch stock in building shaker style furniture what would the most common tenons that I would use? I will need to order some of those at the same time. My first project for the Domino is going to be a Shaker Kitchen Cupboard with a drop down desk - it will be ideal for loose tenon joinery.
 
The general rule of thumb for tenon size is that the tenon should be approximately 1/3 of the thickness of your material.  So, 6mm for 3/4" and 8mm for 1".

A dust collector will not work well with the Domino. A dust collector is designed to move large amounts of air through larger pipes.
It will not move very little air through a shop vac hose. You will be much better using a dust extractor (shop vac) with the Domino & any other tool that  uses small hoses for dust collection.

The issue is not air flow, but static pressure. A shop dust collector has a large air flow, but a low static pressure. A shop vac has a high static pressure, but a low air flow.

It is this high static pressure in a shop vac that permits them to operate from the small suction hoses. Whereas if you put a small diameter hose on a dust collector, the low static pressure results in almost no usable air flow at the tool.

The amount of dust extraction you get at the tool depends on the length of the small hose and a few other parameters, but I don't believe you will get satisfactory results using a standard dust collector.
