Hey guys.
I was sold a used Domino DF500 and it seems to be in good shape.
I don't buy used tools, but I have a project now that I would like to incorporate the domino and I still did not buy one so I took a shot.
This way I justify getting the 700XL also  [wink]
My question is: is it a practice of some to send their used- newly bought or used and old tools to Festool for a good cleaning?
Maybe calibration check?
Maybe small part replacement like bearings and such?

I think if it operates well I would just use it.

The old if it is not broke leave it alone theory [big grin].

This is certainly something that your service team can do. They handle inspections and preventive maintenance repairs all the time.  Once the tool is received, the tech will review the tool and then call you with a quotation on the items we recommend.

I make it a habit to send in my most heavily used tools (ts saws,  kapex, etc) every couple of years or so just for a tuneup.  Keep in mind my stuff is used daily on job sites, and is not babied. I've found that a few hundred bucks is really a pretty economical preventative maintenance step compared to having a tool go down in the middle of a critical job.

[member=101]Festool USA[/member] -    Tyler , could you tell us how much cleaning , lubrication ect.. actually goes on during one of these PM service calls ?

Meaning- if I send in my TS55 for a general once over /cleaning , are the techs just going to do the cursory checks and replace the splinter guard? Or are they going to brush, blow, or vacuum all the dust from the arbor and shroud as well as pull the casing to inspect , clean and re-lube the drive gears too?

Do I have to specify exactly what I want done or is there a menu of std. services and their "included" steps ?

Only reason I ask is the couple of times I've sent something in , absolutely no cleaning happened, and the saw drivetrain certainly wasn't re lubed.  Those weren't related to the issues needing service, but I'm sure they wern't gone over with a fine tooth comb and brought up to as close to factory new condition as possible.

I didn't expect that either BTW.  But nickel's question, and your answer might lead some people to believe sending their tools in might be akin to a refurbishment.  You may want to clairfy exactly what you are offering the svc. dept. to do.

Good question antss.
I sent in my vecturo for plug it pins under warranty. When it was returned the work order card was marked that the tool was cleaned.
It still had drywall dust in the ventilation grill.
I wasn't worried about it but did chuckle about it.
I was only going to it dirty about.
Rick.

It's important that those fein tool gearboxes are re-lubed periodically.

I'm not certain if the supercut/vecturo has the same service rec. as I don't own one. But, I can't imagine it not.

Did he mean my service team can do or his service team can do?

Or did he mean our service team can do?

CONFUSED

I think that he meant that when you buy your tool that comes with the Festool warranty you have the Festool Service team available should you find the need.  Both in and out of warranty.

[member=2335]Trosey[/member] Yes, I meant "our service team". Simple typo. Although you're certainly welcome to sent your tool to your service team as well if you'd like.  [wink]

[member=727]antss[/member] It's hard to give too many hard and fast answers with this, because much of it will vary from tool to tool. If you'd like to know specifically for the TS 55 that you mentioned, I can try to get more details from the service department.

For preventative maintenance, the service team will call to give you your options once they've examined the tool. Their recommendations will vary based on the tool and its condition. I don't believe that you're presented with a menu of options, but you can opt out of certain services. If you weren't satisfied with a service order or believe that you paid for services that weren't properly rendered, please contact our service department (or reach out to me directly if you'd like), and we'll make sure that you're taken care of.

My service team is a little short handed at this time......one (1) man team. [blink]

It was explained to me in Lebanon on the 15th or 16th that your service team does NOT service the pin type problems on the older style fence of the Domino. Okay......less than 10 years old but has been superseded by the newer paddle style fence that I do not like.

But it appears that the current cross stop has the same adjustable pins as the obsolete 500 fence.  So is it possible that I could buy a replacement pin with instructions how to remove the old style adjustable pin and install the cross stop adjustable pin?

I could scrap one half of my cross stops and rob an adjustable pin but I would still not have the instructions on how to remove the old adjustable stop pin. I will not consider swapping the pin fence for the paddle fence.

Thanks,

Trosey(one R)

I just spoke with the service team, and they will still do service on the old Domino fence. The relevant spare parts are still available, so it should not be a problem. Sorry if you were given inaccurate information at Festool Connect.

Well that's certainly good news  [thumbs up], as I was also led to believe that service parts were no longer available, thus servicing the pin type tool was impossible.  [sad]

It was my understanding that Festool will not sell you parts to convert your paddle style domino to the older pin arrangement.

That doesn't mean they don't have a stockpile of those parts for in house repairs.
