domino systainer

Not sure if you are aware, but if I'm not mistaken, that Domino Assortment package is being phased out.  When the 4mm cutter came out, they changed the contents of the Assorted Domino Sys prodyct to include the 4mm cutter as a fifth cutter, as well as the assortment of the Dominos included.

Also note the item number has been changed from 493301 to 495664, but be careful, some sites have the new one for sale, but with the old sku number still being listed: http://www.atlas-machinery.com/products/Festool-493301-Domino-Cutters-and-Tenons (Canadian site)

Harry, sorry that information was not included on the website.  We have been working on a project which will help offer much better product descriptions on the website.  I have updated this particular product in the interim.

You can also purchase the Domino Systainer 2, Empty.

And the Domino Assortment Systainer should list the included Systainer as part no. 494874, rather than part no. 445434.  Part no. 494874 includes the dividers AND the label on the outside that indicates the intended contents -- Part no. 445434 is an empty Systainer 2.

Harry:

I can't tell if your question was answered by any of these responses. The package has changed, it now includes the 4mm bit and tenons and is 495664.

Your first link has a warning link in it called "Notice to all residents of California: Click here to view Proposition 65 warning" being the curious type I wanted to find out what proposition 65 was. Well it ended up saying that dominoes could contain chemicals that cause cancer and birth defects... sorry that made me laugh.

Back to topic. I never knew they sold the assortment without the 4mm bit (by the way that has become one of the most used for me) or was that with the old pin style domino? From what I have seen shops seem to only sell the new set now.

I see that California Warning quite often shopping on US sites, and have no real clue what it in fact really means, but figure it has something to do with saving the earth from our wretched polluting tyrany.  California has often been at the lead when it comes to environmental initiatives even though they are deeply in debt, but it begs me to question whether it has something to do with when the "Big One" comes along, that it is somewhat geared to the rest of the country/continent/world responding more favourably to them for having been one of the idealic places to live in the world despite the fact they are sitting on a ticking time bomb, and the outsiders being more sympathetic to them.  Just my "in the back of my head" thinking on it over the years.  Nothing against them personally from myself, but it has been one of my perceived notions when it comes to their righteous similar type initiatives.  I guess it's the same way, when we see people suffering living in a known floodway/tornado prone/earthquake regions after disaster finaly strikes, we say to ourselves, "But why would you live there if you knew that".  At least California has propelled a lot of good - or so I hope - with their initiatives.  Personaly, I'm terrified of them getting the "Big One".  It would devaste all of us well beyond their borders, possibly worldwide.

It means something in concept, however it's general overuse has now placed it in the category of meaningless.

Besides, just because it causes cancer on the west coast, does not mean it will cause cancer on the east coast,.... or across the pond [big grin]

I'll bet whatever it is, it'll cause cancer in Houston, or Lake Charles...

Tom

I have seen that idiotic warning on items ranging from bolts to air cleaner filters to wooden dowel plugs.  As harry_ mentioned, its overuse has rendered it meaningless and largely disregarded.

California has the most draconian requirements related to cancer causing material warnings.  Since *technically* probably anything/everything causes cancer (or is as yet unproven, but *may* as stated in the warning)... everything basically has to have that warning.

I would presume that originally it was intended to be informative/cautionary. To me, it has been reduced to a hedge against liability.

Thank goodness!  You want to talk about a totally useless product description, just look at virtually all of the router accessories!  The NA website's descriptions are pretty darn bad in comparison to the rest of the business world.
