Domino vertical settings

I'm halfway through the carcases in my first kitchen using 16mm melamine, if I set the fence to the standard 8mm setting the actual mortise is out of vertical alignment by nearly 1mm, making it imperative that I cut the mortise from the right face. Probably good practice, but I'm interested to know if I should expect the settings and gauge to be accurate?

You do not have to ues the gage. You can pull the gage back & set the fence to any setting.
I have never checked to see if my gage is correct, because I do not use metric. I just set the fence where I need it.

Thanks for your comments Chris, do you just ensure that when using the domino you always orientate your mortising to the good "face" or do you take the time to carefully centre the mortise vertically?

I have been reading posts on the domino (i love it)  and down loaded you manual last night but haven't read it as yet, perhaps some of my questions will be answered in that.

Yes I always register off of the good face. I do not worry about having the Dominos exactly centered.

To set the height, I just use the pins. They are exactly centered on the cutter. Put the Domino on the piece and slide the vertical adjustment until the pin is approx centered on the edge.

I second always referencing off the faces you want to be flush. Trying to 'exactly center' the cut so you can reference off of different faces will drive you crazy when you're shooting for a flush fit.

I understood the pins were mounted on eccentric screws to permit adjustment of distance to the cutter - in which case they are not reliably centred. The cutter centre line is meant to be exactly 10mm from the domino base.
