when you want to domonio 2 pieces together for a mitered corner in 3/4" stock have you found the domonio's are to long?  because in order to use the feature the cutter cuts through the miter so if you make the depth shorter then the domonios are about 1/4" to long.  what should I do, besides using biscuts.  or am I missing something.

thank you in advance

In Rick C's manual he shows how to safely cut the dominos shorter and shorten the stroke of the cutter.

Honeydokreg,
Just the facts please sir.  What angle are you jointing?  What size mortise are you cutting?  Can you move the mortise away from the face to gain more depth?
I just skinned the backside of a kitchen island with 3/4" beaded ply at 30 degree outside corner.  I hate shallow outside corners, there never seem to be an easy way to nail or clamp.  I had to cut 6mm x 40mm dominoes down to 6x30.  After a little glue I aligned the panels on the pins and tightened the ply to the wall.  As the panels drew in the joint tightened.  Worked better than I could have hoped.  C Hughes

45 degree cut  , but you would think that festool would have done cuts with this and realized that they need a setting for this type of joining or else sell domonios smaller.

I can cut them on my band saw.  which is what I will do.... I do not use the domonios for this joining that often so its not that big of a deal just thought I would see whats best to do.

I just domino'd some 3/4" mitered corners for some legs in an entertainment center. I was using the 5mmX30mm and going to 15mm depth at 45 degrees without any problem. Also using the "tight" slot.

You are moving the fence with the preset height adjuster to show black in the little window, before moving to 45 degrees, right?

I recently discovered that I was having the same problem.  I tried to read Rick's manual, but the link I found was bad.  Does anyone have the correct link?

Thanks

Try these for clamping those outside corners: Robert Larson clamps

For mitred corners, I try to lay out a pair of the workpieces and then lay a domino on top to determine where I can safely place the mortices without cutting through the workpieces.  I make a pencil line (or multiple ones if the width of the members making up the frame warrants use of multiple dominos) across the mitred corner which I then use to align the Domino machine to cut the mortices.  I usually use a bandsaw to shorten dominos when needed, or a dovetail saw if I need only a few and my bandsaw is not near.  I probably have not made any corners as shallow as some of you have!!

I believe the original post indicated a problem with the drilling operation, not the length of the dominoe or the clamping problem.  I do not have a Domino and have never tried to use one.  I do recall from some past reading (don't remember who, where or when) that the domino routing depth can be set with either a setting of the cutting depth from internal or external adjustment; or by using a spacer of sorts.  I think this is the information needed here.

To find most of the manuals, go to Festool web site. Select the product you are interested in, there is a link at the top of the page for FAQ/Manuals.

The Domino manual is here.
