DP Shop Talk Videos

Here is this week's video release on safety gear!  I quickly go over the lung, eye and ear protection that I've found to be the most comfortable and practical after trying different options over the years.  We all know that safety is important and with well chosen gear there is no good reason not to be protected.  Hope you guys find the video helpful.  Let me know what your favorite gear is and what works well for you.
 
Here is this week’s episode! I show how my track saw guide rail case works and explain how I built it. It’s super simple to make and was made from some scraps around the shop but gives rugged protection to the guide rails. Hope you guys find it helpful.

Also a quick note about schedule. Starting this week I’m going to switch to a video release every 2 weeks instead of every week for the summer season. Summer is busy for everyone so I think every 2 weeks will work better.

Here is the latest episode.  In this video I show my edge banding process as well as the edge banding stands that I designed.  I don't have the space or budget in my shop for an industrial edge bander so iron on has always been the way to go for me.  I find that the stands allow me to be much more efficient with the process since I can apply, trim and file all at once without having to handle the piece more than once.  Hope you guys find the video helpful, let me know if you have any questions.
 
Here is the latest episode on how to scribe with a shop-made scribe tool that I designed and built.  I give a link to a free set of plans for the scribe tool and demonstrate how to use it to scribe in a cabinet gable panel.  I designed this tool after using a compass for years and not really being happy with the accuracy of the results. Hope you guys find it helpful!
 
Summer is shaping up to be really busy between lots of projects on the go and trying to enjoy the nice weather with friends and family.  I shot a quick update video yesterday while I was working in the shop to let everyone know that I won't be able to keep the regular episode schedule through the summer and added a quick shop tip on how I install side mount drawer slides.  I also talk about the two upcoming episodes that will be coming out as soon as I have time to get them shot.
 
I'm back after the summer break and here is the first episode of the new season! I've been really excited about the jigsaw table since it lets me make completely dustless cuts either in the shop or even more importantly in a clients home. It could be made for just about any jigsaw and really helps get the most out of your jigsaw.  Hope you guys find the new episode helpful!
 
I like your hole drilling jig. I think it is better (easier to set up and faster) than Festool lr32 system. Mafell uses the same principle for their jig although its aluminum. There is another variation of it on Holzwerken tv by Guido Henn.

Hey guys, just wanted to share one of my recent videos that might be helpful to those that don't have a truck or a van to move materials(or even projects). I explain how I made my material transportation rails that fit on my roof racks and show how I carry full 4x8 sheets with my car. Hope you guys find it helpful!
 
Hey guys, if any of you found the table saw overarm dust collector helpful that I built awhile back, here is an update with some additions and modifications.  I also modified my cross cut sled to make it work even better with the overarm.
 
To end off 2016 I've just released a blooper reel of some of the bloopers and outtakes from the past year.  I would also like to thank everyone that watches and also everyone that has purchased MPT plans.  The support has been very much appreciated.  As the first year of DP Shop Talk, 2016 has been a great year with a lot of growth.  I realize that I don't use any Festool gear but I hope that you guys have found some of my jigs and methods helpful.  I have all new episodes coming out for 2017 starting on January 7th with a full review of the GRS-16 track saw guide rail square from TSO Products so stay tuned for that.  Hope you enjoy the blooper reel and I'd like to wish you and your family a Happy New Year!
 
I enjoy your videos thanks for sharing them. As a former maritimer,  I have to say you have a very mild accent. No doubt you're a Canuck but I wouldn't have guessed Nova Scotia. Of course I've been in the South so long now I've all but lost my Canadian accent and get harrassed when I go home now. But I digress ;)

Quick question about your tablesaw dust shroud. Do you have the vac wired to the tablesaw or do you have to manually turn it on/off each time?

That's interesting about the accent.  I guess it's hard for me to tell since I've lived here for most of my life other than the 6 years that I lived in PEI.  Always interesting to hear how things come across to other people :)

I use an iVac switch to control my dust extractor which is what I hook up to the overarm collector.  I keep the remote clipped on my pocket so it's always with me so it's super easy to turn the vac on and off.  The 1 HP collector that is hooked to the bottom of the table saw gets turned on and off manually but where it sits right beside the table saw it's easy to do.

I just released an episode on how to make dust collection upgrades to the Bosch Axial Glide saw.  I thought I would post it up in case any of you guys have this saw and are wanting to improve the dust collection.  You can download a free PDF plan for the dust boot if you would like to make your own.  The other mod that I've seen is people attaching the dust boot from a Kapex to the Axial Glide with decent results but this setup seems to capture more dust since the boot is bigger.  The Kapex definitely has the Bosch beat in terms of stock dust collection setup though.  I wasn't very happy with the stock setup on the Bosch.  Hope you guys find the episode helpful.
 
I just released the follow up episode to the dust mods episode showing the other additions and upgrades that I made to my miter saw.  They include a zero clearance fence plates, a zero clearance insert as well as sliding material supports with flip stops.  The material supports help let me make the most out of the space in my shop since I don't need a dedicated miter saw station with this setup.  Have any of you guys made zero clearance inserts for your Kapex?  Hope you find the episode helpful.
 
I just released a new instructional how-to episode on how to design, build and install a set of pull out shelves for existing cabinets.  Pull outs are a great way to upgrade existing or new cabinets with better storage efficiency and ergonomics.  Hope you guys find the episode helpful and let me know if you have any questions!
