Well I took the plunge. Been rocking RIDGID for years and a friend sold me his collection of festool for a steal. Since then I’ve bought the Tracy saw with a scoring blade, the mfk and the 1400. And today just bought the table saw and ks 120. Needless to say the other subs on site are jealous. Thanks for having me!

Welcome aboard! Seems like you are all set.

Welcome to the FOG!

I had a similar experience. After already picking up a few Festools, I had an online meetup (through here,) with an engineer in the middle of downsizing his well-stocked home shop. He started with a couple of largish things ("Could you use this?") I enthusiastically and immediately put them to use. Over the summer he called a couple more times to have me swing by. "Just get it out of here!" By the third trip over I'd taken too much to actually feel good about taking any more and we cut a deal for some cash. "A little beer money would be good," he said.  [smile]

He moved back to his childhood hometown, but I still have his email. Occasionally I'll send him pictures from job albums, but I've been remiss for the past year. I will remedy!

Welcome to the party! We also have green T Loc shaped cookies to snack on as well. (Come on Fan Shop, we need a cookie cutter next holiday season!)

Sounds like you’re off to a great start! Any reason you went with the KS120 over the KS60? (There’s a really good deal on a cordless miter saw/ctc midi/4x5.0 energy set still with dealers currently)

Also, there’s some great Domino promotions right now that I’d take a look at if going for the Pokémon gotta catch them all approach. I try to take advantage of these when I can, the seasonal promotions offer nice discounts and come with full 3 year warranty still, for almost new, or returned stock items, Festool recon.com also is a good place for deals.

Also recommend taking a look at the accessories for each tool, the systems are well engineered and there’s some great things to be had, (see Festool live lost in the catalog episodes)

Lastly, Festool live on YouTube, Sedge has great tips and tricks to help get the best performance out of the system, plus he’s got great hair, and a wicked accent.

Welcome to FOG!  Lots of good people and good advice here.  Stick around.  I promise you’ll learn some things that make your Festool purchases more productive and more enjoyable to use.

I went with the 120 just for the fact I went and looked at both and it seemed the 120 was a much better machine. Thanks for the response!

Flavor-aid.

I don’t know how Koolaid got the blame.

Of course, if you said “Flavor-aid”, no one would understand.

The same reason people confuse/conflate HG and JT.  It's the shock of the whole thing that registers, not the details.

Also, of the two, Kool-aid was the better known brand. And it rolls off the tongue more easily in the turn of phrase.

What a fantastic story!  Thank you for sharing!

You do realize that there is a very specific point to "Drinking the Kool-aid" right?

It's in reference to the Jim Jones cult mass suicide in 1978. Some 900 people drank Cyanide Kool-aid.
It's one of those things that you really had to be alive at that time to fully understand the shock.
It's very much like trying to convey 9-11 to anyone under 30.

Sorry, back to the regularly scheduled program....  [unsure]

Packard's point was that it was actually Flavor-aid brand, not Kool-aid.

I always confuse J----town with He----n's Gate for some reason, especially the drink and the shoes.

Likely because they were both horrific, so the event itself and some of the reported items stick out, but not necessarily the nitty-gritty details.  Easy to conflate.

My mom always called “Coffeemate”, “Creamate”.  We never could break her of that habit.

Apparently, Jim Jones had his followers rehearse the Koolaid drinking.  There is some argument as to whether this was a mass suicide or a mass murder.  If you Google the event you will find that the Wiki entry is about 4 times longer than the Encyclopedia Britannica entry.  It seemed odd to me.

Drinking the Kool-Aid is also a minor reference to Tom Wolfe's, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test.  The most common reference in this book is "Being on the Bus of off the Bus".  But the drinking the Kool-Aid applies as well.

Most sources now just refer to it as "punch", maybe to avoid the stigma?
