Drawer slides

I read on other posts than many of you use Gliderite slides for your shop made systainer ports.  Do you also use these slides for your fine cabinetry or do you buy the more expensive slides?  I am building an entertainment center and like the price of the Gliderite slides but am suspicious of the quality compared to Accuride and others.

Hi Tom,

When I do use ball bearing slides in a custom piece I always spend the $$ to get the best I can find.  The customer often notices the difference between the inexpensive and the high quality hardware so I want them to be happily surprised.  More importantly, ten years from now I will not remember the difference in price of the hardware, but my customer will be living daily with the difference in feel and longevity.  Adding a hundred or so dollars to the cost of a 4 to low 5 digit piece simply does not show up in the bottom line but does show up in customer referals.  My $.02 anyway.

I absolutely have to second Jerry's thoughts on the drawer slides.  A few bucks makes a pretty big difference in the quality of slide.  If I don't make my own, I prefer Blums or the high end Accurides - your customer will definitely notice the difference.  And happy customers keep coming back, and recommend you for more biz!!  You usually get what you pay for in this world - slides are not an exception, IMO.

I won't use anything but the Blum tandem slides. Most of my customers know all about them (all of my work is by referral afterall) and are expecting to see them. I personally don't care for ball bearing slides too much. The Blum Tandems are much much better, IMO.

Thanks for the help.  The cabinet is for me so I don't know about the almost $40 Blum slides, but I will buy some quality slides.
One more question, do you have a favorite supplier for drawer slides?  I usually shop at Woodcraft or Rockler, but I was wondering if you guys had a favorite supplier with either better prices or selection.

Thanks sroxberg, it looks like the prices at ahturf are much better than Woodcraft and Rockler.  The wife says she would like to use the Blum slides anyway, so I'll order from them and save a little money.

Wow, Steve.  I wish you'd posted that a year ago before I bought 22 sets of 21" Blum(otion) slides for my kitchen.  Ouch.  Now I know!
