I’ve never found a drill stop that I really trusted until I tried the one that came in my True Position jig kit.

It’s a split ring that is tightened with a bolt. The stop really grips.

I keep extras on had, they fail and start to slip around 250 shelf pin holes.

For multiple holes of the same size, I'd recommend using a drill guide bushing.  They come in different lengths.  Look for headed press fit drill bushings or slip-fixed/renewable (SF) drill bushings (also known as removable drill bushings).  We buy them at Grainger but I'm sure they are available at other industrial suppliers.  They help us limit the depth and ensure a straight hole.

You mean the bolt is on the side?

Yes, that is much better.
I have broken drill bits when tightening a set screw onto the bit.

Two words. Not always.

There are setups that just don’t work with a drill press. Often, I will use a drilled dowel to limit depth. Works, but a really solid collar type stop is sweet.

The screw doesnt touch the drill bit. It tightens the collar around the bit. Probably expensive to make.

Me and a buddy both have 2 True Position jigs. He told me the stops were crap and slip. I concur

Well that's unusual, as these drill stops are just a miniature version of an electric motor coupling that would couple an electric motor to a pump or a gearbox where any slippage between the 2 items would be a no-no. For example...

I just used one of the True Position 1/8” drill bit collars with no issues. I did have to really crank on the Allen wrench to get a really solid lock down.

The TP jig comes with a 5mm drill bit and collar.  I didn’t have to crank as hard with the 5mm.
