Hello all.

I am a first time poster, short time lurker.

This past weeknd, I power washed, sanded, cleaned and painted the hull of my 24' RoMarine solo in a day.  All with the help of my new CT25 and Rotex RO 150.  I am not hooked to systainers and looking to expand their use.

I install wireless networks for a living.  I used mostly hand tools for day to day work.  Nut drivers, screw drivers, pliers, crimpers etc.  I am trying to put all that into a systainer 2 or 3.  I'd like to get a big block of black rigid foam, like they ship computers in, to fit into the systainer.  I would then drill out the spots for all my nut drivers, screw drivers etc such that upon opening the lid, I can quickkly and clearly see the lables of each tool on the end of the handle.  Weight is a concern.  My current tool chest, a rolling pelican, weights 80#.  This system would be for a smaller subset of commonly used tools.

Ideas?

Hello and welcome.

If wheels are suitable in your work you might consider a Sys-Roll with your systainer mounted on it.

For organizing tools inside the systainer Festool makes a custom insert but it is likely better to make your own, particularly if you want to access tools without removing the insert from the systainer.  Search on here and you will find several variations of this.  There are also some threads about using a systainer to create something like a briefcase for paperwork, laptop / tablet, etc.  There are also inserts for systainers that can be used for small tools and parts, and there are also sortainers and racktainers.  All of these stack together in various ways, but note that the newer style T-locs only attach to the top of classic style *tainers including the sortainer.

You could build a small stack on the Sys-Roll with a racktainer, a sortainer and your systainer with custom insert that would be very flexible and likely weight less than your pelican roller.

Keep in mind the systainers are not as durable as the pelican containers, nor are they water- or dust-proof.

Check out posts here with "Kaizen Foam"  its from Fastcap and available through woodcraft.  I think it will meet your needs well.  It's a semi rigid, not hard foam though.

Check out the video our friend Daniel made when he used kaizen foam for his drilling sortainer.

I will uplaod the link later, but just check out kaizen foam on tooltown.com

we have it here, with other fastcap accessories here

Hi and  [welcome] to FOG!!!

i think this thread link below will be very helpful to you, as it seems like he is doing the same type of think you want to

http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-and-tanos-systainers/new-guy-here!-starting-to-move-my-van-over-to-systainers!/

Like Johnmocha said, Kaizen Foam, from Fastcap is what you are looking for, a great place to pick it up might be from a guy i met recently, Brian Way, he is a carpenter by trade, fastcap dealer on the side and all around great guy!   the coolest thing is he offers the foam pre-cut to fit inside of systainers and in all different thicknesses   check out his ebay store, this link should get you right to the foam;

http://stores.ebay.com/BP-WAY-Tools/_i.html?_nkw=kaizen&submit=Search&_sid=80758317

you may want to contact him and specificy weather you have classic or tloc systainers

Good luck, post some pictures of the boat and let us know how the organizing goes!

Hi,

Welcome to the FOG!  [smile]

Lots if info and ideas available here.  Your subset of tools idea will work really well with the Systainer system.

Welcome! Have you seen the router bit insert (I think 487 925)? Predrilled for router bits, fits (or comes in) a SYS. A couple of other companies sell router foam inserts, they are $15-20.

Hey Grimaldi    I talked to my buddy Brian and he has posted pre cut kaizen foam in 3 thicknesses for the t-loc and mini systainers in addition to the classic systainers    As always you can always get it in sheets and do your own thing completely

Here is the updated link to all the Kaizen foam he has available
http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5575048336&toolid=10001&campid=5337335296&customid=Kaizen+Foam&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fstores.ebay.com%2FBP-WAY-Tools%2FKaizen-Foam-%2F_i.html%3F_fsub%3D4129850017%26_sid%3D80758317%26_trksid%3Dp4634.c0.m322

Make sure to post some pictures of whatever you end up with!!

So as many projects go, this took a slightly nad very effective turn.

Basically, I took the gold club sleeves, cut them down to size and back filled them with foam plugs I cut from some server packaging material sent to me.

I realize in the context of this site, this is pretty ugly, but I can see what tools I have from a top down view and it fits perfectly aboard my boat.  a HUGE improvement.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

i see nothing wrong with that, it actually looks like you made great use of the space, packed quite a bit of stuff in there and everything still has its own spot keeping things organized    well done
