DS400 is it worth it????

Hello All,  I going to buy the RO150 and the ETS150/3 sanders.  I am also thinking of buying the DS400 sander.  It appears to a good match with the other two sanders for finish / detail work. I am unable to find any posts on the DS400 sander.  I don't want to waste my money.  If any one has any incite on the DS400 sander please let me know.  Thanks MAC

I have the RO150, ES125, and DS400.  I also have the RS 400 pad which you can change out with the delta pad in effect having 2 sanders  instead of one.  Most of the time I use the RS pad which is rectangular, as most of my work is casework and boxes.

Mac - Perhaps a call to Bob Marino would help answer your question.  Bob is experienced with all of Festool's products, and he sells lots of Festools to people all over the country.  I am confident you will get an unbiased opinion from Bob.

OK I am confused you say the DS400 & the RS400 pad are interchangeable.  The 2006 Catalog say they are not.  It would be great if they were.  Thanks MAC

yes, please explain how to interchange the DS and RS pads! I have the DS and use it alot on panels and inside small carcasses (sp?).

you need to order some parts from Festool Parts Department.  If you look at the manuals for both units, you will see what parts to order.  It's been a few years since I did the modification, so I don't want to steer you in the wrong  direction with misinformation.  I think there was a discussion on the old FOG addressing this.  What drove me to do this was I ordered the DS400 thinking it would suit my needs, wasn't happy with it in my application (well after the 30 day trial period), and ordered the parts to avoid buying another sander.

Just be careful when you make the switch. In another discussion, it was stated the Festool warranty will be voided if damaged. IMO, don't see how the simple switch could cause any threat of damage.

The short answer - YES.

I have the DS400 and I frankly don't use it that often, but when you need it, its a lifesaver.  It can get into tiny places and the dust collection is extremely good.
