DTS 400

I couldn't find any really good threads on this sander by searching so I figured I would start this thread.

I am going to be picking up the CT 22 - DTS 400 combo tomorrow.

I am purchasing the DTS 400 for doing my edge work and the accessability it provides with the delta shaped head.  If this is what I am looking for, is this the correct choice for me?

I noticed that this does not seam to be a popular sander and I'm trying to figure out why. So if any of you want to post comments with your experiences with this sander, that would be great.

I've got the DTS400, it's a nice sander. The orbit is only 2 mm it's not an aggressive sander. I picked it up to replace an old PC 1/4 sheet sander and it's some much nicer to use. I've found it runs best with it's speed control turned up all the way and the vac's suction turned way down. Your other choice is the Deltex sander, I don't have one but I hear it's a great tool.

Agree with Brice. This will suit your needs quite well. If I were doing just corners and edge work, slats and louvers, I'd opt for the Deltex, edge work as well as general sanding, the DTS 400 is more the ticket.

Maybe this forum gives you the impression this is not a popular sander. But I'm pretty sure that in Europe this is Festool's best selling sander.

Been using my DTS 400 on the exterior of my house for sills, windows and stuff that the RO150 can get at and the Multimaster is too slow at. Have to admit not being too impressed by the MM's ability to sand and the consumables are expensive as well. My "quiver" of sanders are the following...

1. RO 150 for large areas and shaping/grinding
2. DTS 400 for all of the corners and nooks and crannies the RO can't access
3. Multimaster for even smaller stuff the DTS can't get at like window sills and for all the "other" stuff like cutting the MM offers especially in a remodel situation

I also own an ETS 150 just for finish sanding. I will say again that the MM seems out of place in the Festool ecosystem. I am tempted to get the Deltex purely for its ability to sand corners and stuff. Just my .02, but I will have to say that I'm totally satisfied with putting the money in Festool. They never disappoint.

Mark - the deltex was one of the first Festool sanders I bought about 8 years ago.  I have the Fein Supercut but would never even think of putting the sanding attachment on it.  I don't think you'll regret getting one.
