Dust collection for those with boom arm accessory

I was just fiddling around and realized that the "fat" hose (50mm I believe) can be adapted to 27mm thus improving the suction for stationary tools like Kapex. I suppose one could use it for other tools as well, but the range of motion will be diminished. My adaptor consists of two Bosch parts that I married together. The large end is hard plastic that is 50mm to 36mm and the other part is typical rubber that is 36mm to 27mm. I haven't tried it yet, but I have to believe the collection with be better.  By how much I don't know.

Necking a 50mm hose down to 27mm is a real obstruction to the air flow possible even though it will still be better than a straight 27mm hose.

I turned down a PVC plumbing fitting to be able to connect the vac end of a 50mm hose over the outside of the kapex fitting and it really 'sucks'.    [smile] [big grin]

So, what's the difference between necking the 50mm to 27mm over 1.5m (my adaptor) vs necking the 50mm to 27mm over 5m (boom arm)?

I would expect probably very little difference as the major restriction would be the 27mm hose end.

Originally I used the 36mm/50mm combo with the boom arm but now use the Festool 27mm covered hose with the 50mm on the boom arm. I have plenty of suction with most tools. However, the suction is still better using my first combo (36/50mm) for the TS55. I suspect that you would need at least a 36mm (rather than 27mm) hose for the Kapex.

I think you know this based on your post, but you don't need to rig anything up to connect either 27mm or 36mm hose to the 50mm. There is a Festool collar which does this. (I couldn't tell whether you were using Bosch parts because you didn't know or for another reason.)

I'm not connecting 27mm hose to the 50mm.  I necked down the 50mm, so essentially I have a 1.5m x 50mm hose with a 27mm tool end. I also have the Bob Marino 36mm dedicated Kapex 1.5m hose. That hose definitely works better than my original 3.5m x 27mm and my 1.5m x 50mm>3.5m x 36mm boom arm assembly. I posted because the Marino hose worked better at straight 36mm, wouldn't it stand to reason that a 50mm hose would work even better still?

After all, if less is more, think how much more more would be?

I run the 27/50mm route and have to turn the suction down to nearly nothing when sanding.  Sometimes I forget to turn the suction back up on other jobs.  When burying the TS75 it still collects most of the dust even at half suction.  Not once have I thought "gee, I wish I bought a fatter hose."
