Dust extraction port for Metabo LF724

I also have the LF 724 and both hoses will fit the round dust port.
It's the same with some Festool machines: D27 gets in and the D36 gets over the dust port.

But I recommend the D36 hose because it produces no dust but wood chips like a planer.
And the dust channel on the base of the machine is quite narrow and ends in an oval plastic port and then a round one.

And after using the LF 724 it also requires some normal sanding with different grids because it's always difficult to produces really flat surfaces with it. It also depends on the kind of wood and grain direction. And it cannot reach into acute corners with stairs f.i. due to it's high front end and rectangular base. A RO 90 or DX sander is necessary for that.

But it's still a very valuable machine which has no competitors.
Maybe a small belt sander can do the job you're after better.
DeWalt D26480 and the Bosch GVS 350 for the corners might be an option, but both are discontinued to my knowledge.

Thanks [member=7673]neeleman[/member] .  I'm considering it for a stairwell refinishing project I posted about in another subforum (to which no one has yet replied [poke]):http://festoolownersgroup.com/vario...-topics/refinishing-stairs-with-wooden-tiles/

I assumed I would have to smooth out with a sander after passing over with the Metabo, and I have the RO90 to get at the corners and edges.  The finish on the existing stairs is fairly light,  but the stairwell is so big that it seems like the Metabo would be a huge timesaver, even over the R0150.  In reviews I read of the Metabo it said people have used it to make very light passes on veneered wood, so it seems like I could use it without fear of damaging the underlying wood, which looks like a softwood pine/spruce/fir.  The only concern I have is that the wooden tiles are endgrain up (presumably to compensate for the softness of the wood).  I know it's generally not a good idea to do a planing cut on endgrain, but does the same logic apply to a machine like the Metabo on this sort of wood?
