As a drummer and woodworker, I came across this video that I thought would be quite interesting to FOG members.  It covers how DW makes their own plywood, creates drum shells using using high pressure forms, routing, finishing, sanding and so much more.  I own a set and can vouch for high quality.  They are the Festool of drums.

Great link!  I am also a drummer!  I've coveted DW's for years!  I purchased a set of Yamaha Maple Customs, natural finish in '94. I'm very happy with them, but I love the F.A.S.T. sizes as I'm a smaller dude and like to play my drums low!  Perhaps someday!!!

Me too.  Haven't played professionally since '95.  Would love a Noble & Cooley set if you're feeling generous!  Loved the sound from my old Gretsch, but the hardware plating was crap.  Anybody ever find out Gretsch's secret inside coating on the shells?

I have watched that video many times. I too play and just recently sold a set of Yamaha Maple Customs for a set of DW Maple Collectors Series. Ken I am going to see a friend of mine whom is a Gretch Guru tomorrow.  I will ask about the shells.

Nice vid, thanks for sharing. I always love these looks inside a manufacturing process.

The end result looks very good. But boy, do these drums get made at a high pace! I'm amazed at how fast this is done. Now I'm not a drummer, but a guitar player, but if I was going to get a top notch instrument I sure would like the builder to take his time for it.

The last set I had was the Pearl Custom Z.  Gorgeous, but way too thick Maple for my playing style.  Always loved the projection of the thin Gretsch shells, even with the lightest playing.

Drummer and woodworker here. I live about 1 mile from the DW factory and still need to go do the tour. Maybe see Neil Peart there if I'm lucky!

It's funny how many drummers there are on FOG -- I am one too.  I love DW stuff...I live in So Cal and have a friend in the music business and I have gone to the NAMM show several times...DW always has an impressive booth and seing Neal Peart's customer kit is pretty cool.  Thanks for posting this video...
