Well, we just had a nice earthquake with a bunch of tremors here in New Jersey.  My uncle called from Maryland and they had it too.  Any other states care to check in to see how widespread this was?

Supposedly 5.9 and centered in central Virginia -- Peter's neck of the woods.

Give it to Jesse, he'll bring it back to life.

This was nothing for you Californians.  You guys need a good 8.0 + to be a typical day.

All things considered we shook real good for about 3-5 second here on Long Island. It was certainly something quite different.

Odd how it shook here almost continuously for around a minute.  Guess it's true that Jersey's one big landfill--unstable ground.  [big grin]

New report in.  Maybe Shane will confirm this?  Peter was testing the new Domino XL DF700 on the super wide mode setting.  That seems to be the cause.

Felt it here in Toronto, Canada. About 20 seconds of swaying or so. Cat ignored it completely.

That was wild.  Kept going, and going.  Luckily my wife was home to kept the one aquarium from sliding off its stand.  Stocking up right now at the store for the hurricaine this weekend.

Ken, i have the xxxl model and that was the narrowest setting.

Peter

Peter, remind me to get that model when it comes out!  [big grin]

The news is reporting it was centered at Mineral, Virginia, 3.7 miles below the surface.  Guess the miners down your way don't know any better about mining on a fault line.  [scared]

4 miles south of DC here. One initial shock that was more underfoot, and then a second one that shook the house pretty good for 15-20 secs.

Plenty of things fell off of the shelves/walls. But I must have the anti-vibration MFT. Not one thing jumped off of there!

Visiting Toronto on a business trip.. my family in NY also felt it.

Tornados, crazy rain storm resulting in flash floods, and now an earth quake.. I sure am not looking forward to winter..

The ground shakes and the entire East cost shuts down. It is a weekly event in California.

Sounds like you're suggesting that earthquakes happen on the west coast so often, most of the population suffers from early symptoms of brain damage.

We just ignore them and keep working. [scared] Or was that a truck that just went by.

Everyone of the three times I've felt an earthquake in Toronto, I've always thought of the movie, Independence Day where he says "Is that an earthquake?" and she replies "Not even a four pointer. Go back to sleep."

The scariest part of it was the sound.  Like a freight train.  Like 4 freight trains at a railroad crossing.  I saw one of my customers tight afterwards who was in the Northridge CA earthquake.  He described that as 50 times worse than this.

Hope that everyone is ok.

Peter
