Those of you that have purchased an Eclipse Honing Guide clone recently, where did you purchase it, and was it of a bit higher quality than what most of them are?  I have one that is pretty bad, lots of paint and really loose fit.  I realize they are all knockoffs from overseas, but I've been told some sources have better quality than others.  Thanks

Bill,
I did that and it does help, but I would like to get another clone and am looking for one that is of a little higher quality than the one I got at Woodcraft.  I'm hoping that one of the online Retailers is getting theirs from a source with a little bit better quality control.

Have you tried the Veritas honing guide? It's excellent. Bridge City make an eclipse type jig but it is very expensive.

I have one of the Veritas Guides and like it for plane blades, but it doesn't hold chisels very well.  The Eclipse style clamps on the sides so they can't skew.

The only chisel I have trouble with is the 1/8" chisel and I can do this free hand.

I just saw a new one that is very well made and done by AskWoodman.  He has a site and videos on how to use them.  I haven't purchased one yet but that's the direction I'm going.
